Welcome to Subsim. Legion's Noob Guide was a very early tutorial movie made when the only thing available was Neal's manual targeting video, more of a demonstration than a tutorial. Legion's Guide was about locating a target which is radioed in, relies on the stock game configuration with velocity tails to determine course and uses automatic targeting and by guess and by golly spread angle adjustment to hit the target in two places.

I just located the movie and will upload it later.

So here it is, restored for your listening and dancing pleasure: Legion's Noob Guide. And I haven't even seen all of it yet!

I can tell you it starts out with telling you how to bird dog a reported sighting (not a contact) to see if it is real. He uses course information from the radio message and constructs a probability corridor, then makes a search pattern to run.

Once he finds the target he takes full advantage of the stock attack screen description text, velocity tails, etc, to make the approach as basic as possible.

Legion uses automatic targeting, so if you're looking for manual targeting tips, this is not the place to start. And he uses a by guess and by golly spread dial adjustment to aim the second shot at the stern.

It all works, it's not intimidating and it will work fine. It's a great introduction to Silent Hunter 4, and a great piece of Subsim history: the first real tutorial video for Silent Hunter 4.
