Breaking News!

Foreign Office reports that cargo ship "Saturn" which belongs to "Limarko shiping company" and was sailing under Lithuanian flag on August the 3-rd was attacked by armed raiders at Nigeria territorial waters. Five citizens of Lithuania were taken hostages and carted off by gig to unknown direction

Updated: The president of "Limarko" shipping company today said to the press: "The ship is undamaged, it wasn't robbed, it can sail and navigate. The assault is still "fresh" it happened 8-9 hours ago so I would't like to comment anything else, since we don't have more accurate information about the incident. The crew of a ship is 14 men."

Updated: Ship was assaulted at night from Monday to Tuesday. The ship was stationary on anchor and was waiting for cargo disembark in the morning. People armed with automatic weapons mooraged at the ship. They did not atempted on robbing the property or cargo, but just took five men who were on the watch that night and sailed off.

Updated: Ministry of National Defense (MND) confirmed the readiness of sending an international Swat group (SOF - Special operation Force) to liberate Lithuanian citizens from that region if democratic negotiations fails. But so far (MND) resigns from further comments about situation in Nigeria due to the statement that situation is very sensitive and Foreign Office officialy asked to hold back from any further comments.

Not really , Nigeria has a longer recent hisory of piracy than headline grabbing ones in Somalia so it isn't a spread around the continent at all .
The other usual hotspot in Africa which is Ghana has had a reduction in piracy recently.

When I said continent I had whole Africa in my mind.

To the most dangerous top 10 regions which takes two thirds of assaults on ships for today includes: Nigeria, Vietnam, Guyana, Ecuador, Aden bay and the whole region of Red sea.

Indeed this isnt really 'news' even if it is portrayed as such.

Let's hope there'll be no need for a military operation to free them and negotiations are successful.
