Default Sound Bug, Perhaps?

Hi, all.

Since installing SH3, every few minutes my speakers erupt with what can be described as a really loud "wave crashing" sound, or maybe an air jetting sound. Every time it happens I leap out of my chair a few inches, especially if there's a lot of in-game tension going on. The sound continues for about 5 realtime minutes, and seems to coincide with choppy frame rates. The only fix I've come up with is to turn my volume down to the bottom. Even then, the sound is so loud that I can still here it seep through the speakers at minimum volume settings.

I'm running GWX 3.0, and have downloaded the newest drivers for my soundcard. The bug was present before I installed GWX, and I had somewhat hoped that the mod might fix/remove the bug, but apparently it has not.

During my brief experiment with SH4 (which I'd love to play, but my computer rig runs at a lovely 5 fps or so) I had the same situation, as well.

Is this something any of you have come across? If so, has anyone found a fix?

I did try searching the forum, but turned up nothing. Maybe I was using the wrong parameters or something. I'm sorry if this is a repeat post, I know that's often a pain.

Thanks for any help.

That's a soundcard issue, not a game issue. What model is your card? Are there any other electrical devices close to your computer?

None that I can think of, but I'll give it a good search once I get home. Maybe my mic is feeding game sound back into the computer?

The ambient background soundloop ín the hydrophone station does contain a few seconds where you hear the sound of a wave breaking over the bow/conningtower. Are you sure it wasn't that? Was it really artificial?

Did a little search for this as I was having a problem similiar to yours on my old computer (I've since gotten a new one and don't remember how I fixed the old problem) It appears that it could be the mic, or a ground loop issue. Do a google search for "random loud static from sound card while playing" and see if any of those solutions help.

Pretty sure it's artificial, as it rarely comes up at the hydrophone station. It does sound like that effect, though, only much louder.

Will do...thanks for the help. I'll let you know how it goes once I get back to my rig.

I unplugged my microphone, and haven't had the problem since then. Thanks, everyone!

UPDATE: Scratch that. Problems reduced, not eliminated...more searching required...
