How many Depth Charges
after a recent a very long depth charging by a lowly Destroyer Escort, I want to find out just how many charges the IJN (or Ducimus or Lurker) put in the ´cans
At the time of this April 1944 patrol I was using mainly TMO 1.70.... RSRD changes this doesnt? so how do I go to find out, which files must I open or has anyone made a list of it? contributions are welcome

Why don`t you just count the splashes or the explosions? The number of depth charges is not preprogrammed. It`s not in a file, if the destroyer thinks you`re dead they will stop dropping depth charges.

and since we cannot send up debris or a big oil slick, there is no way to convince the tin cans we are dead. While the number of depth charges dropped by a escort is not preprogrammed, he must draw those charges from an stockpile, Im trying to find out what he keeps in his lockers

I think it can range from 40-120 per ship depending on ship size.
I have seen this info but cannot remember where, as vickers says - try that file ![]() |

they do have only a number of depth charges because i was in a patrol in 1942 and i sunk a japanese liner, it ws escorted by 2 destroyers it took 20h to get rid of them lol and by then they ran out of depth charges and guns fire because they kept making runs on me but dropped nothing so i started firing torpedoes at them got one but the other i couldnt hit so after my co2 lvls were almost at 35% i said screw it so i surfaced and it didnt fire so i went flank speed south and got away and the lone escort didnt even follow me or nothing so they do have a number of depth charges im guessing around 100 because i was hit by depth charges for at least 14 h before they stopped

also keep in mind that if you stray out of their range then back into their range, the DD starts all over again with its full compliment of depth charges so if you keep them in range after they run out they are no longer able to attack you. (unless they ram your scope)
this was taken from the read me in tater's "IJN Depth Charges Y thrower Fix" Quote:

To paraphrase Ron White: "I don't know how many depth charges it would take to sink my sub, but I know how many they were going to use!"

I copy his sentiment...
and every time you re-tell the tale, the charges exploded closer and closer

Those type D can really throw the charges....6 Y gun and roll off from the back can easily drop 20 in one pass. Hate those suckers.

CDs can have 120 or so. Early war DDs might have 6 or even none at all.
Stock has way too many since every stock launcher has 40 DCs. |
