Default Trick: Torpedo Renown Sale - Buy one Get one Free

Others more familiar with SHIV may already know about this trick, if so, apologies for repeating.

When in port, you have a certain amount of renown which, among other things, can be spent on torpedoes. I like the Mk 23s, but sometimes I can't afford to fill my boat with them. Here's what I do:

Load the reserve tubes with Mk 23, but leave the (free!) Mk 14s in the tubes themselves. As soon as the mission begins, open the doors and launch every torpedo out toward the open ocean. Head immediately for port and refit. Your reserves get filled up with Mk 23s, which you load via the standard drag and drop. Refit again to top off the reserves.

Ta da. Assuming 10 torpedo tubes (Balao), you just saved 1,000 renown, and for the rest of your patrol you'll always get nice shiny Mk 23s whenever you refit.

That is pretty much cheating and if you are playing with out duds then the mk.14 is better than the mk.23 anyway the 23 is merely a 14 with only high speed setting and 4,500yd range.

What you should do is get a few mk.18s and do the same trick they are wakeless. But dont get rid of every mk.14 or mk.23 you want some higher speed fish as well.

Or you could go into your careers file and simply give yourself 50,000 renown but that is pure evil cheating and makes you a scallywag. And dont ask me how to do that renown thing I wont promote that level of cheating you will have to figure it out yourself.

Another "cheat" you can use is have two careers at very diffrent points in the war like 1944 and 1441(ha ha you will have a Gato when the others have galions!Take that Ponce De Lion!) then have both of them in the "office" in port load up the 1944 career and then from the office load up the 1941 career sometimes the 1944 upgrades will carry over and be aviable in the 1941 career including torpedos. It does not alwyas work though so you have to try a few times.I mention that one because it does not help you all that much. The adding renown cheat is getting credit for ships that you never sank.Earing the renown properly is a way to inspire you to become a better skipper.

I am sure some know of all three tricks but it dosent matter I bet they have not be mentioned in a while.

It's not cheating, if there's no one is watching what you're doing.

Aren't AI opponents wonderful? They never complain or storm out of the room if we reload our career after a botched attack or otherwise game the system. But then maybe game loading crashes and CTDs are their covert ways or retaliating for our cheating.

It's not "cheating", it's "a little-known game option to realistically simulate the common WWII practice of providing cases of alcohol to refit crews in exchange for preferential torpedo loadout"

Didn't you know that? It's right there in the manual....

Just make sure you provide the cases of alcohol after they're done handling the torpedoes.

You can't cheat in single player. As far as I'm concerned cheating is when your cheating against another person, like online. Cheating has ruined online play. What someone does on their own for their fun is up to them.
We have a dozen mods that make uber subs. It's not a matter of cheating, it's what you enjoy at the moment, arcade of historical.

I dont agree with that. I was not trying to discourage the guy not to use his trick or the renown one he can do what ever he wants. But going in and giving yourself renown is cheating.Anything you do in a game to take advantage without doing it by normal means(renown you get that by sinking ships ect.)so if you add renown in the files but sank no ships then that is cheating. Much like in GTA4 you can use all knids of cheats by calling ceratin numbers on the cell phone there are numbers in the game to get all the weapons for free that is cheating because you did not buy or obtain them fairly.

I dont see why it has to be multi-player for it to be a cheat.I use the GTA4 cheats all the time by the way and do call it cheating. Multi-player cheating truly is dirty rat cheating because it most often makes you un-killable or gives you auto-aim so it is unfair to everyone but you can still cheat single player.

Single player cheating is mainly for fun I agree with that but it is still cheating. It is just fun cheating rather than unfair cheating.
You guys are so sensative of course that is because you are all dirty cheaters.:rotfl:

C'mon Steal.....your reaching. It's a game. I'm simply talking there is a line between cheating others and playing the game your style. You can go in settings and give yourself unlimited fuel, no duds and many unrealistic things. These are in game functions, but we don't call it cheating. Sure, your cheating yourself out of realism, but I would never call a person a cheater that tunes the game to there style of playing in single player.

Just saying we should choose out works carefully and let people play as they prefer....after all...we're all cheaters in this game. In fact most of us are so insensitive to this stuff it never mattered...
