Default SH4 Emergency

Hey guys, last night I got a virus through a user gen mod my friend sent me; it destroyed my data folder. Can anyone with an un modded game upload their data folder to mega upload or something? I know, I was stupid for not backing it up. But can somebody please? Thank you

Why not just reinstall the original game you purchased?

Probably a good idea. Though, I know its in this room, I'll look for it again first. For now, my friend said he'd do it.

Time to buy the SH4 Gold Edition for $20.00 or so and have the latest of everything.

I thought it was fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me? If your buddy was the source should that not compromise your trust in anything else PC realted he gives you? Either he is very disorganized or he is not a very good buddy to be giving you something that had a virus on it in the first place. Dont keep stepping on the same rake. Until you pick it up it will keep smacking you in the face.

My disc had gotten lost twice. I finally hid my last one so it didn't get mixed in the thousands of disc my kids have...

As Gump said.."It happens". Why I have seperate back ups of my Data folder.

You guys should look into this. Things got REALLY messed UP for you, EGH?

Stop screwing around with trying to fix stuff the way it used to be and save time!

Restore your computer to the way it was the day before as of midnight to 3 a.m [that's when the backups happen].

My solution Protects up to ten [10] computers/laptops in your house. In about an hour to an hour and a half you can DO A total RESTORE of your computer to the state when it was A-O.K instead of all that "fixing-up" crap.

You can buy the OEM version of what is called the Microsoft Windows Home Server from NewEgg.com for $99.00 bucks and use an old junk PC [I did] to do it [backing up ALL the computers/laptops in your house]. The requirements are SO LOW you can use a Pentium-III as long as it is 1.0 Ghz speed.

Instead of spending the money on a HP Home server [$400-$700 bucks] that MS suggests, I am using 7-hard drives [of various sizes] internal/external type for a total storage pool of 4-TERABYTES. I have 1-TERABYTE of free space on a old junk Dell Pentium 4

You just plug in another 1-terabyte drive and watch your Server storage GROW - no jumpers/no master/slave - no problem mixing IDE/SATA hard drives - TOTAL NO BRAINIER!

ps: A positive plug for a HP Windows Home Server. Than can ALSO do a complete backup of a MAC based PC/laptop. Not available on the MS OEM version.

---> Here's the magic I use for the past two years <---:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...r/default.mspx

Here's some pictures of my server box in my furnace room - protects 5 machines in my house and a MAC [and I have >>> FREE <<< web site hosting that you are just about to look at! ]

http://learnabit.homeserver.com/labserver

AND you can do COOL stuff like this while backing up all your PCs/laptops and it costs me NOTHING:

http://learnabit.homeserver.com/mikephotos

And I can do cool stuff like this FOR NOTHING!!!!!
Patience ... takes a while to generate those SH4 thumbnail views at your end - there is over 1,000 + Silent Hunter 4 screen shot pictures !

http://learnabit.homeserver.com/sh4

AND ........ I host My WEB site for >>> NOTHING <<< but I do pay $50 bucks every five years for what is called Domain Name forwarding.

http://learnabit.net

AND ........ I have 900 GIGABYTES of DVD movies stored on my server that ANY TV in the house can play. I have done NOTHING [yet] about music sharing in the house!

Restoring a wiped out PC is like changing a light bulb - most of the time You have to jump through some hoops if you have an oddball network card in your rig.

All the above is done on a JUNK Dell 1.8 Ghz, single core Pentium, 1-gig of RAM. PC's age is about 7 years old. !

Secret HINT:
Convert EVERYTHING on your home network to 1-gigabyte network cards and JUNK ALL Cat5 10/100 hubs. Replace the 10/100 hubs with 1-gigabyte SWITCHES - wow is everything FAST!

Ogh, forgot, on the server I have an IP monitoring system, so I now see hundreds of "hits". I might not know your name, but I know you are looking.

Forgot to mention - here is the Server's WEB page - yet another FREE one for my use only - you'll NEVER figure out how to login :
http://LearnABit.HomeServer.com

My backups are FOOL PROOF. They are hard drive "images" like Norton Ghost. No need to reinstall ANYTHING, Period ... on five different computers !

Backups are kept for three [3] months on the server!

Assuming the house does not burn down.
Then, I am screwed, chewed, and barbecued.

Default Um

This is the time when a network drive comes handy.

You should keep your master disks in a safe place, and make backups of your files in a different HD - a network one works like a charm.

Also a friend sending you viruses... that is not cool but how come your AV didn't catch it?

I doubt copying and pasting the data folder will help you, if the virus was "smart" enough to delete that folder, you can bet it deleted the registry keys as well so you have 2 options: You find the disk or buy a new one. Now if you lose disks that easily, then buy the downloadable version of it, if you buy it this way, most places "store" your game for over a year... just in case something like this happens to you again.
