Default Battle stations questions

I see a button for damage control team activation. I am not sure how it works though.

Do i need to manually place men into the damage control slots then hit the damage control button to make them fix things?

Or can i somehow assign guys for a damage control "team" and leave the slots for damage control empty and then when i hit the dc button the guys go automatically to the dc slots and start repairing things?

Thanks for your help. Loving this game.

Yes.

No.

Place guys in DC slots. When you go to Battle Stations, the DC team is part of the activation. They will stay active as the DC team until you secure from BS.

If you are not at BS, you can click the button to activate the DC team (whoever is in there), but they will do this for only about four hours or so.

Fatigue plays a role in either case - when your crew is pooped, they won't perform anymore.

When you are in port take the opportunity to recruit some crew members and justy keep them in the damage control slots rather than shuffling around your watch standers. They will be activated when you go to battle stations or click on the damage control button.

But, as Stealhead mentions, it's arguably better to be slightly undercrewed.

I didn't want to get into details, but:

If you're not running RFB, and thus no "Hogan's Alley", what I've been doing (currently running GFO only) is leaving fifteen spaces open on the boat. When I submerge, I take the Watch Officer and the three Watch POs and six other Watch crewmen and put them in DC. There, that's my DC party.

Now I take my Gunner POs, the Asst Gunner and anyone else and they man the torpedo room slots I have open.

The main reason being that non-RFB versions do not provide submerged slots for your deck party and they get killed by depth charges.

Good point on the gun crew. They do manage to get killed now and then

There is a Hogans Alley mod for TMO out there I dont use it but if I did I would take the higest mech and electric guys from the guns and watch and still put them in DC and put the others in the alley. The way I see it why have a full time DC crew they will gain little exp while if you use your gun crew they will get 2 forms of exp per patrol. And in real life if you have the silver or gold dolphins you can do DC anywhere in the sub because you have proven that you know how the entire thing works.
