La Spezia to Toulon Issue

Just wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light:

My current career is in the Med. I finished my previous patrol on the last day of August, 1943 in La Spezia. When starting my next patrol, it said that the base was changed to Toulon(probably something about the Italians defecting...

). When the game loaded, La Spezia was green and I started on my patrol and everything was fine. I was on my way to my patrol area off of Sardinia and I had to quit due to RL issues and I saved.
When I reloaded later on, the game crashed.
No-I didn't save close to land and there were no ships nearby

(even though that has never been a issue before).

Since I wasn't very far into the patrol, I tried loading from the "In Port Before Patrol". The briefing page showed "NULL" for a patrol area(which seemed odd) and starting location 0 degrees N and 0 degrees E, which I have seen before, so that was no real suprise and I was not able to look at the equipment and crew screens while in the office, which was really, really strange

However, when the game started, I really was at 0 degrees N and 0 degrees E off the coast of Africa.

Hmmm....OK, let's try this:
I loaded from the "In Port After Patrol" and it loaded fine and started the patrol without restarting using SH3Commander.
I did the transfer the old fashioned way-I sailed from La Spezia to Toulon without going to my patrol area, spent a week in Toulon, and have sailed for my patrol area without any hitches.

The whole thing seemed odd, and I'm sure it had something to do with the change in base but it worked out fairly realistically. I just took a little sight seeing trip along the coast of Italy and southern France to Toulon.

Any ideas?
