Default 56k Alert

First of: Let me (re)introduce myself. I have been known here a few years ago as werauchimmer. I have been lurking and following this forum ever since and now I thought I share something in return. I would have posted under my old handle, but... well... I forgot the password and have no longer access to the old email adress.

Anyways: I have been to Bremerhaven a few days ago, and took the opportunity to take a few shots of the "Wilhelm Bauer". Build at the end of WW2 she was one of the few Type XXI boats that took to sea. After twelve years on the seabed she was raised, refurbished and used by the Bundesmarine. So, technically what you will see is not a Type XXI but more of a modified version.

These pictures have been re-sized to make them easier to upload. The originals are 10MP and around 3-5 MB each. if anyone needs those, PM me and I will upload them to some FTP server.

As an added treat you will get to see the hands of my GF on one of the pictures, since she was patient enough to bear with me while I crawled through that boat.

Here we go:

Well. Thats it for "Wilhelm Bauer". :-)

I made a few shots of Wilhelmshaven, notably two Uboats (Don't know the type. 209 maybe?) that await scrapping and of the active duty frigates, but that will have to wait for another thread.

Thanks for posting Chuck!

And the Uboats were probably Type 206s, I don't think the German Navy ever operated 209s.

Welcome back!

Great pictures, and lots of them.

Witty name, too.

Didn't they restore the Wilhelm Bauer to look like an original XXI? I remember reading something about that

And the German Navy never operated 209s, I'm quite sure

Anyway, nice shots
