Default A more than a little miffed.

It's 9th Sep 1940 I'm about 100 miles west of the Straits of Gibralta. A convoy has been reported approaching, I am at 120mtrs, stopped and rigged for silent running.

After a while I pick up the sounds of engines a long way off. The convoy gets nearer but sonar still says 'long distance'

My sonar man, who is 'qualified' is tracking the nearest warship which is at 100deg long distance and constant distance. I confirm this myself with the 'H' key,

Next thing I know is "Depth charges in the water" and "We're taking damage sir!"
I'm killed with all my crew.

No pinging - no sounds of approaching ship - depth charges deadly accurate at a time when the Royal Navy's asdic could not determine depth, and if I remember correctly it's DCs were unable to reach this depth,360ft.
What happened. I was just beginning to enjoy this career.

GWX 3.0; 16k vis. realistic damage and repair times; no medals.

As I recall the British Mark VII could reach depths of 900 feet at or near the end of 1940

Hi,

Yes jimbuna, I knew that the performance of the Mk7 was improved. Adding weights I believe. but I didn't think they were generally available until well into 1941. I wondered if flotillas did a local mod prior to getting an Admiralty approved one. Local ingenuity!

Still I'm very irritated to have been caught napping! Sonarman will be fired, No 1 tube I think!

Dosn't explain how the Brits found me. I thought I'd got my approach sorted out, go in early, slow and deep and wait for the escorts to pass. Don't know what to try next.

This learning curve is a bit steep. Ah well back to sub school.

Actually, DC's are not modelled to change their parameters during the course of the war ingame.....what you start off with you finish off with.

BE MORE AGGRESSIVE!!

If you were in a high time compression mode it's possible they were on you before you picked them as being close. If you were at 1X time then I would say that was unusual.....................

Yep I always restrict my TC use to cruising and only in exceptional circumstances when hunting. i.e.; I KNOW they've lost me and can safely book it out of there.
