Industry catching on; DRM not appreciated

Seems all the bitching and moaning of gamers is finally being recognized. Companies seem to be reversing the trend of more invasive DRM, while some are even shipping games without it entirely.

"I definitely believe this is all the result of a change in the public perception of DRM, a sort of grass roots uprising," observes Ron Carmel, co-founder of San Francisco-based developer 2D Boy. "Gamers are much more vocal about it than they used to be, perhaps because they are so accustomed to downloading music without too many restrictions."

"Spore was the final straw that broke the camel's back," recalls Brad Wardell, president and CEO of Plymouth, Michigan-based developer Stardock. "Someone who buys software does not want to be made to feel like a chump for buying it. Much of the outcry came from legitimate customers who said that they shouldn't be restricted by DRM, especially since people with pirated versions weren't."

On the other hand, there are new games like Rise of Flight that require you to
be online constantly when playing singleplayer in order to check the DRM.

In unrelated news, it looks like the corrupt judge in the PirateBay case was not
assigned to the case randomly as he should have been.

I won't be buying ROF because of their online policy.

If ROF even see's the light of day I'll be surprised.

I won't be buying it because the features seem rather crummy

I've been playing MMOs and other such games that require internet connection and sometimes monthly payment to play, so ROF's requirements don't really bother me, but I can see why someone won't like to buy it on those grounds

and what about the people with dial ups or smallband that are slower then the required 512kbps to play the game, there are still many areas which do not share our luxury of having fast internet connections.

Am I upset… surprisingly no. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded this torrrent and watched the film, our awareness level is through the roof. For that I say, “THANK YOU”!
What you guys have done here is nothing short of amazing. In the future, I will not complain about file sharing. YOU HAVE HELPED PUT THIS LITTLE MOVIE ON THE MAP!!!! When I make my next picture, I just may upload the movie on the net myself!

Another good point Hunter. Maybe the most important as far as ROF is concerned.

I would think since their "small potatoes " in the game sale industry they would want the most sales they can get.
