Last night I was on my second patrol in a new career, and tooling along fat, dumb and happy in thick fog and heavy seas at night. 1024 time, of course.
I hear bullets whizzing by, and hitting me, and I order a dive and flank speed before jumping out to external view to see what's up. Well, a destroyer came right up my wake and was less than 10 seconds from giving me a pretty good nudge. As my boat rolled over under his bow, my lookouts announced that a ship was spotted. Thanks, guys. I died from diving too deep with the damage I had. I'm sure he would have made short work of me anyway. Tonight I start a new career, and my maiden voyage in a VIIC, I walk right into a large convoy in early '42. My 3 free acoustic torpedoes turn into 3 sunken destroyers, and it's just me and lots and lots of ships! I only missed with one torpedo, which hit a different target afterwards, and sank it. Only one ship took more than two torpedoes to sink. Then, I realized most of the ships didn't have guns on them. So I surfaced for some target practice. I missed very few shots and emptied my ammo bunker. There was even some dueling going on, and I killed off all the guns facing me. I've got one eel for the return trip, and I've put 16 ships on the bottom. 88k tons. Maybe I can make it an even 90k with that last eel!! |
