Default Gave up on SH4. Back to SH3. It's good to be home.

I bought SH4 a while back. Wanted to try it out and was impressed with the graphics (especially the transparent water and reflections). However, the game overall lacks something important: atmosphere. Sure, technically, it's a far superior piece of software. But as an entertainment experience, I find SH3 much more satisfying. I can't nail down specifics, but messages from BDU and the music that plays when you sink a ship are a couple of examples.

So I dusted off my old copy, reinstalled it, and am on patrol number 2. It's good to be home.

i know exactly what you mean. i tried SH4 and i enjoyed it very much and played it alot with the excellent mods that people made for it. But after i while, for some unexplainable reason, i just had to go back to SH3

Can relate, but with a different series - MS Combat Flight Sim.

Loved #2 (Pacific), bought #3 (Europe) when it came out - but went back to #2 shortly after, was a 'richer' experience overall.

From what I've read about SH4 - and experienced with SH3 - there's no reason for me to leave this game.

Welcome back anyways!

If you will pardon the pun. I am in the same boat.

I really like the idea of SH4. But you are absolutely right. There is "something" not right with SH4. It is tough to put my finger on it though.

I do know, that for me, manual targeting in SH4 is more awkward than in SH3

I am getting ready to start up a new career in SH4, but I am sure I will be back to SH3 very soon.

From my 3 days experience, I see SH4 as a nice raw material (semi-product) in a terms of making further Atlantic campaign... based on modern PC graphics.

So it takes one supermod that will change hundreds of elements into "real feeling".
... and guess which "bunch of fanatics" can do that

It's funny to make a comment from my "total rookie" experience, but I played more with installed files than with a game itself... it simply didn't draw me inside...
( contrary to SH3 that grabbed me from the first touch, long time ago )

I have a full respect for original US campaign and modes, but it's contrary to my gameplay logic - to play campaign that gets easier and easier as the war progresses.

I played 9 months SH3 before i met the first royal battleship south of Spain... and in SH4 you are supposed to hunt Yamato as a rabbit in a bush.

Anyhow, SH3 engine is outdated in 2009, so for me it's just waiting and hoping... that "wolfpack" could get hungry again
