Default Depth Charge Modding

Hi

I'm currently trying to modify the depth charges in SH3 but got stuck with two issues, and I can't find any helpful topic in the forum. Maybe one of you guys can help me out:

1. In the early years, the DCs don't get any deeper than 100m before they explode, even if the sub is much deeper than that. Later in the war (around 1943) they can reach depths of ~200m. I'm aware that this has a historic background, but it's still boring if I'am perfectely safe in 140m during the first years of the war. Does anyone know if and how this time-linked maximum detonation depth can be altered?

2. Using Timetravellers SH3 Mini Tweaker, I modified the files depthcharges.sim & .zon to change some of the DC stats. Afer I failed several times I found out, that these files contain values for 5 different types of DCs, each with its own characteristics (eg. fallspeed, max/minEF, explosion impulse,...). Does anyone know how these different DC types are used in the game? Are they used by different nationalities or at different stages during the war?

Thanks a lot

Hello!

The problem you described with depthcharges exploding
early, is something I too find boring. I have tried to tinker with the
destroyers sensors.Giving them more advanced sensors than they historically should have had early in the war. Unfortunatly
it does not seem to make any difference. I suspect that this is hardcoded
within the game.

Never heard of 5 types of depthcharges. But who knows? To my knowledge there are
only one model. And hedgehogs.

Anyway, here is some good links if u are interested in how the sensors
work

Hey

Good to see that someone else has the same problem. I don't think the destroyers sensors play a role here, there must be a file that contains this 100m DC limit (which disappears at midnight on 01/01/1942) and I pray that it's not hard coded!

Concerning the 5 types of depth charges, apparently no one knows about them. Probably because they don't appear in the SH3 Mini Tweaker due to a incomplete tweak file. But it's quite easy to make them visible with a small change in these files. I guess I'll open a new thread for this, might be useful for some guys.

Sensors do play a role.
However,
The Campaign files also play a role.
In the early part of the War,
Crews are not rated as highly so weapons and such are not going
to be as dead on as later years.

Here's a simple example to try.

Create a Single mission.
Place 2 WarShips in it.
One with a novice crew
and one with an experienced crew.

Then have fun.
