Silent Hunter 4 performance in vista...
Hi!
I've been playing Silent Hunter 4 on my new laptop which isn't a great powermachine but enough for the can you run it to give me a score of passing even the recommended requirements for the game. The laptop runs vista home premium. The truth is the game runs like a dog and I have to play at 1280x800 at a very low detail level to get the game to run smoothly. Then I tried just for fun to install it on my desktop and it runs like a charm with all effects but the post processing activated. Unfortunately the machine doesn't like the game since it crashes ever so often (which doesn't happen in vista). Any suggestions on how to improve the performance of SH4? The computers details: Laptop: Amd Turion X2 RM-70 @ 2 GHz 4 Gb RAM ATI Radeon HD 3470 X2 Vista Home Premium 32-bit Desktop: Amd Athlon xp 3200+ 1 Gb RAM ATI Radeon 9800XT Windows XP Home |

I'd agree... concentrate on the graphics first. Most laptop video cards use a mobile version of the chipset, so the video card is subtly different that the desktop version. As a result, some weird things can happen. Quite often, a software manufacturer will place warnings on their box sides, stating that the software may or may not work with the mobile versions of otherwise compatible video cards.
