Recently, i've been very depressed. Things haven't gone my way in my career or in my personal life.
Tonight I reached an all time low, and burst into tears on my bed, when my little dog (usually unaffectionate and just sleeps!) came up to me and gave me a fun look, she sat down and licked me. It touched me in a way that I didn't know whether to laugh or cry more, but whoever said dogs are mans best friend, was spot on. As I type this she is sat at my feet looking up at me. She really brightened me up tonight. Have you ever had any extraordinary experiences with animals? |

Your dog understands a lot more about you than you might imagine. She spends a lot of time focused on you and learning to read your subtle body language.
She sensed that "something" was wrong. Since she is unable to comprehend what that is, she is unable to help you solve the problem. Recognizing this, she can at least show you that you are not alone. That is one of the greatest gifts dogs can give humans. With a dog, you are never alone. The relationship between human and dog is one based on mutual support. We often don't give our dogs a chance to demonstrate their support but in this case you did...and your dog responded appropriately. Dogs are man's best friend I only hope that I can live up to the standards my dog sets for me. I fear that I will never be able to justify the loyalty, faith, and trust my dog gives me. But I always try.

Well said, Platapus.
![]() I had a German Sheperd who used to cheer me up kind of like that. His preferred method was to come up to me and give me his paw. Unfortunately, he was big and clumsy so it was more like he thumped me with his paw, but it was still nice of him. I also have a horse who seems to respond to me, too. Normally he's very spirited and even a little willful, but if I'm down about something, he calms down and will even rest his head on my shoulder. It's a good thing I have him because my current dog, Trouble, is about the most pitiful creature on the planet. Just looking at him can make you depressed if you don't know him. He almost always has his tail between his legs, and no matter how nice I am to him, he always looks at me (and everyone else), like they just kicked him. If he's in a chipper mood, he'll look at you as though he is sitting outside in the rain, watching you through the window. He's still a good boy, though.

The German Shepherd is one of the best breeds.
My dog Gunner has tons of personality. and he loves to play. If everyone is just kind of sitting around and he is laying there on the floor he will perk up and run to his toy box and get a toy and set it on your lap as if to say "all this sitting around is boring... lets do something." he is protective too... recently he has been more vigilant toward the noises outside - i think he realizes that in the arson case against my car that we were "wronged" - now its as if he is making a point to alert us to every sound that is out of the ordinary. he is a good pup! im reminded of a quote "He is your Friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader he will be yours faithful and true until the last beat of his heart you owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

My cat can sense tone of voice pretty well, she'll run up onto my lap if I'm obviously angry or tense. She doesn't do anything else though, just the usual play for attention or sleep
![]() It's quite comforting, in a way.

I had a woman in the past I had just started seeing come over to my house for the first time.
She immediatly didn't like my dog who was friendly and approached her tail wagging to be petted. She yelled "Get that mutt away from me " Knowing I had a dog before she came over. " He lives here I said " Your just visiting. my next words were ... Don't let the door hit you on the *SS on the way out. ![]() |

Answer is yes. Mine however was my cat. Her name was Annie ofter Little Orphan Annie. You see, she was found after a pack of dogs took out mom cat and her siblings. She had her tail bitten in two from the dogs. She was of course now an orphan hence the name. At any rate, she got caught up in a car engine(keep warm one night) and when said engine started, she lost her ear and received 101 stitches down her back. Not long after that she broke her leg. Nine lives I would say. But, yep, when I was down and out as a kid, she would always start rubbing her one eared head against mine and make purring noises. Any other time was spent chilling in the sunny spot on the carpet. Pets seem to have a sense about things and makes you wonder. She lived to a grand old age of 19. Russian blue she was.
