Default Interesting damage result

Doing a test while in port between patrols. Created a scenario for the Sugar boats fighting the infamous Akakaze escorting a tanker.

Akakaze vet ratings. After he spotted me, I dove to 150ft. After the first pattern, he hit me hard. Lotta fuel lost, batteries damaged and engine room flooding, compressor damage.

Results were a loss of compressed air which did not cease until I ran out completely! Had a repair crew on it with #1 priority, but it took too long to repair. I always keep externals to get the wonderful views of my boat especially under attack. Once flooding was under control, I tried to take my boat up, and it actually went down again. So I did the opposite and tried to take her down, and she went up!

I did external view and found that she was stern heavy due to flooding, but after the flooding was under control, the same thing happened. I checked the planes, and since I saved under water, bow planes were missing. But the stern planes were stuck in the down position. Finally had to surface as I could not keep the boat under control, and compressed air was at 10%. Surfaced 1500 yards from the Akakaze and when I reached the surface at a 30deg up bubble, I was a sitting duck, and the kicker, the diesels would not start Akakaze rammed me and I was dead

Funny, as I did not have any damage to diving planes or diesels listed and I had 48% fuel left....

I am running TMO 1.7. I wonder if this is an effect of this mod, if so, COOL, except for the diesels being dead.

Anybody else notice something similar??

thanks

I read somewhere in the forum we should only save the game on the surface in real time - is this the result of saving under water???

When I first started playing this game,I had all sorts of strange stuff happen after saving submerged,so,I always save surfaced.

rockin robbins swears this doesnt happen to him but most people learn to avoid issues after saves you must follow these guidelines:

it is best to only save if:

you are surfaced and not moving or near stopped

no AI contacts are reported nearby by your crew

you are not within at least one mile of land but i prefer 5 miles away

you are not in shallow water where your shallow water icon is flashing

its also a good idea to turn off battlestations too

never save underwater near land or with any AI presence in the area or in most cases it corrupts your game.

Hmmm, I am able to save anywhere without issue...under water, on the surface, with AI near...does not matter, all save's work great for me. I am running SH4 1.5 if that has anything to do with it.

Consider yourself lucky ! I've learned to abide by the list above with the exception of the speed I'm travelling. Haven't had any death rides to 1200 feet at game load since I've taken those precautions .

I save any time, under any conditions and never had a bad save since I started going to the nav. map and pausing the game before I save.
I guess it's a thing that bugs some but not others.
If you are having save problems than Websters advice is, as always, good.

I do as Webster says, even though I only had a few corrupt saves. The fact is if you save with lots of activity such as enemy, near land, planes, ect...the more chances you take with a corrupt save as it has to read much more to save.

Get near a large TF and save, come back, notice how much longer it takes to load...just more info, more chances of problems. Best thing is to do your saves away from all activity, takes less space also.

The only corrupt save I recall is saving in the middle of a large convoy of over 40 ships during battlestations underwater. I came back, my game took 5 minutes to load, then CTD...

as far as i can figure it depends a lot on your computer, the better cpu, video card, and more ram you have the less problems it causes and if you have a computer that just meets requirements then you can have lots of issues if you dont save carefully.

but just a good system isnt always going to avoid issues because sometimes people with very capable systems have issues when others dont.

So you guys all think its due to the underwater save? I am not sure if those results happened before or after the save.....

its that or a corruption in the game files from a mod or some modding of files you did.

90% of game issues like that are from bad saves and the other 10% are mod related corruptions

Dont know about others but I have never had any issues so long as I saved while surfaced seems that I get the dive planes bug if I save while under the sea. I have once or twice saved while silent running near a convoy while preping an attack. The down side is even if you get no bugs the when you load a game everything is loaded at "deafult" settings so silent running will be off as will battle stations ect. even though you may still see the icon in the top corner it will still be off. I found this out when I thought based on the load that I was at battle stations and silent I was not and it nearly cost me.

a common issue saving in shallow water or underwater in less than 100 feet is instant collision damage

you see when you spawn you fluctuate a little and can be up or down in depth if your not surfaced so even if unreported you get some damage reloading underwater unless its very deep. the dive planes, rudder, co2 and watch crew any of which can not work right
