Default A couple of questions, if you don't mind.

Hey all!

So, I've been involved with Silent Hunter since the second was released. Followed the development on GWX since it started, having played nearly every version as it came out. I've also been a lurker on these forums for the better part of a couple of years.

Now, I'm faced with a couple of minor conundrums that bug me enough that I want to break down and finally show my face.

1.) I recently discovered OLC's Gold mod and I must say WOW! Has nearly made SH3 a new game to me! One small issue I have though is the ship icon disappearing when I zoom in. I understand it makes the navigation a bit more realistic, but I still prefer to be able to see my boat. Call it a comfort blanket, if you will. I've caught mention of a small mod that can place that icon back and I can't seem to find it, having looked for it high and low in the search function. Could someone be so kind as to point it out to me?

2.) Having discovered OLC's mod, it has influenced me to attempt manual targetting. Now, so I can completely control the parameters of what environment I want to practice in, I've turned to using the Mission Editor. However, a problem has arised that, again, I can't quite figure out. Is there a function within the editor that allows me to determine what torpedoes my boat is loaded with? I want to practice with the different types, but seem to always end up with a default loadout, so to speak. So, am I missing something? Am I simply looking too hard and overlooking it?

Thanks for taking a moment to read my first post. And thanks all for your continued enthusiasm and support for such an fascinating hobby.

WELCOME ABOARD!

Unfortunately, I'm with Irish1958. I don't use OLC-GUI, so I can't help with your problems. There are plenty here who can though, and they'll be along with the correct information soon enough.

Welcome aboard squadldr76

Question 1....The OLC mod is a truly fantastic piece of kit, a great enhancement for the game.

I've a feeling it's the Umark tga your making reference to....if so, here is a link:

http://files.filefront.com/UMarktga/.../fileinfo.html

Simply place in your data/Misc folder.

Question2....There is no function within Editor that allows you to determine the configuration of your torpedo loadout.

The best way is to create a career beginning late war then you will be able to upgrade/downgrade your loadout on the equipment page.

Thanks for the replies. One thing to mention though, the icon I'm looking for is the one that puts your own ship on the navmap, not the orange marker on the external camera. That icon is useless to me because I always have External switched off. It's not a big deal really, I can still function without it. It'd just be nice to have it so I can be a little bit lazy about calculating my location on the map.

The funny thing is the actual reason I have the External switched off. I've never been one to enjoy really deep water and when I watch my targets sink or observe my boat while it's underwater, I tend to feel a little queasy. Does that happen to anybody else? Or did I just provide some ammunition for others to make fun of.

Anyway, happy hunting!

That's a good reason to not use it. For me it's not that real, so I don't worry about it. There have been a couple of players who refused to play SH3 because they felt bad about sinking Allied ships. It's all good. I'm addicted to screenshots myself, so I leave external views on.

Actually, not too long ago there was a whole thread on that subject----
