Default A Walkaround on a "mothballed" Typhoon

Found this fascinating link on Battlefront: http://englishrussia.com/?p=2525#more-2525

Whole mess of pics of some folk touring through a laid up Typhoon.

love the interior shots. Have always wondered what these giant Typhoons look like in the inside.

Thanks for sharing, smith

Cheers,
Neo

lol blame it on the
Wachowski brothers of course

I was about to comment on how sad it is that these boats aren't maintained.......and then I remembered what they were built for.

I've read somewhere that they thought about converting them to transport ships. 3 floors of standard containers would fit into it. It would be expansive for sure, but typhoons can go under ice, which could reach some places otherwise only reachable by plane.

Nonsense maybe .. but I love the idea.

Or at least they could run one for tourists.

Not exactly like this post here (publicly open sub) but there are some Los Angeles class interior views linked from this site:

Looks great that Typhoon tour, a real monster!

Reminds me of the tour of U-534 which is laid up over the water from Liverpool. A few years ago we climbed up the conning tower and were allowed to walk around it. Ghostly.

Its been cut up into sections now which is a shame but its still viewable.

i did some where have pictures of the interior of the russian project 971 akula class SSN il try to hunt them down, at the moment only two remain active in the fleet one the TK17 paid off earlier last year i believe which leaves just TK20 Severstal and TK208 dmitri donskoy (trials ship for buluva) in service.

I would speculate with the new borey SSBN alexandr nevisky coming down the ramp soon that the TK20 will be slated for removal.

If I was infinitely rich I would buy a decommissioned Typhoon, moor it somewhere quiet and have the world's most awesome houseboat.
