Default A Couple Of Issues

I guess it's possible to be spotted from the air, bombed and sunk even thou you are at periscope depth? I sunk 37,000 tons using all torpedoes and was waiting for the destination indicator on the map to turn gray so I could go home. Cruising around during daylight hours, at periscope depth on high time compression, lots of planes coming and going, next thing I know I am sunk???

When you hit a ship with two or three torp’s and it goes dead in the water but doesn't sink. Do you have to hang around and either put another fish in it or surface and take it out with the deck gun to get credit?

What means it when you give an order, and you get an "unable to comply?" message. I had a convoy all lined up and nothing. Looked like the crew was taking a nap.

I read somewhere that there is an indicator that tells you how much noise your boat is making but I can't seem to find it. Is it a mod?

So far I am really enjoying playing, want to get through my first career before I start adding realism or mods.
Thanks

Yes, planes can bomb you while at PS depth. Possible you hit a mine also.

'Can not comply' usually means you left your men at battlestation to long and they do go to sleep.

I hang around until the ship is sunk. I believe you have to be in visual distance to get credit.

No noise indicator in SH4.

Especially if you've left your periscope up. Not a good thing to do ... especially in shallow water.

I was in deep water, but the scope was up.

I now have a huge passenger ship that I am shadowing. The only thing I can do is shell it from the surface. Used up all but 9 rounds of HE, switching to AP. Multiple hits, I slowed it down and some smoke but I don't think I will sink it before running out of 4.5" ammo. (Used up a bunch earlier on a large transport). I don't want to get too close, had a nasty surprise on the previous patrol. I had to drive to avoid aircraft but it's getting dark so THAT shouldn't be a problem. I guess ramming it isn't an option?

make sure your shooting at or below waterline or shells do no good so long range shelling is not a good idea if you can help it.

if ship is disabled pull right up to the bow so your in line with its bow and then surface so deck guns cant reach you and you can finish it in safety

but submerge as it starts flooding or guns will be able to get to you as it sinks.

I never thought of that one. Great idea.
I can't help but to comment on your Sig. A guy who I tolerated when he was a kid did me a favor when he grew up that today is worth about 350K.

it only works at the bow because its real high so at the stern then can always get you.

one drawback to this tactic of getting close is ships can explode and kill you with the concushion so tankers i wouldnt use he rounds on and use discretion if its burning it may explode so you have to judge each situation if its safe to get close

They can get you with the scope down too. When I pick up an aicraft on the SD radar,I go to 80 feet, and have never been attacked by an aircaft at that depth.

Montana and I think alike! Too many times I have seen from the free camera that at periscope depth the sub is showing in between waves (especially in rough seas). 80 feet is my normal on evading aircraft detection... what with all my long term experience with the game. LOL (sorry... couldn't resist)

It took me some time to figure out the right depth to avoid air attack. Not too shallow, not too deep...

You strike me as a fast learner .

Wait until you load a mod and have evil planes pop you at 150 ft or more. TMO mod has some mean planes. I once got damaged at 200 ft.

Web is right, aim below the water line..I prefer near the stacks, but then spread some out for wider damage radius.

Maybe TMO is different, but I run RFB,and have never been attacked below 75 feet. Maybe I'm just lucky, but there ya go

yep, in TMO all planes are elite and rarely miss you.

they can sometimes see you at 150ft just like if you were on surface if water conditions are right. Ducimus has some evil badass airplanes lol.
