Default Mystery on the Type VII

Hi,
few questions concerning the sharpy pointy looking thing seen here, right between the depthmeter and a tasteful photo of Heidi Langelegz:

1. Would you stick your hand in there?
2. And what if I dared you?
3. More importantly, what the hell is it?

Thank you very mu- HIMMELHERGOT HERR LINDNER, NOT AGAIN!

Actually, that's not a photo, although it is tasteful. It's a Esquire Girl pin-up painting by American illustrator Al Moore circa 1951. As for the weird cog-like thing...got me.

I guess we could always convert her from 'girl next door' to one of 'girls gone Wehrmacht.' She loses a lot of the original charm though.

Ah, the kreuzbikini, not just a short lived French fad from the forties. Still, hell of a lot better choice than going commando in woolen sweaters.
(love the monocle and that whole laying on France thing)
