Alas, I guess it's an increased realism feature in SH3, but 3-4 torpedos out of the academy exam kit just bounce off or pass under the targets. Can I turn these random failures off for the time of the exam in the academy only?
![]() I'm on GWX3 +SH3Commander. Thanks, SH999. |

Before you start the academy there should be a change realism button near the bottom right on the screen. Click that and click the dud torpedo setting. Then when you start a mission or campaign you can change the setting back.
Shooting from a 90 degree AOB with a lower TDC angle will decrease duds from impact settings. |

GWX does make it harder. On the one hand take Otto's advice. On the other with GWX you get the same 1500 renown just for completing the Navigation Course, and no extra for anything else.

I found that doing the exams in the Naval Academy was a very worthwhile experience, as it saved me doing a lot of learning on the job. Let's face it, you can mess up as much as you like in the Academy, but in a career you only get once chance
![]() I play with GWX3.0 and 100% realism. The convoy attack exam was a total nightmare to pass, but I managed it with no dud torpedos. As mentioned above, try to stick to attacking from 90deg AOB. I also set all my eels for impact pistol rather than magnetic. That will cure your "passing under the ship" problem if you set running depth at 4m or so. ![]() Good hunting! |

All good advices, I start loving this game. Will carry on with the current settings. That magnetic/pistol fuses are all new on me, I guess they'll help increase pk.
Thanks. ![]() |

Here's a link to the SH III Community Manual: http://http://alexbret.perso.cegetel.net/index4875.php. It has a section on torpedos which may help you out a bit.
Good hunting. ![]() |
