Default IE8

I see that IE8 is RC (release candidate) now. Is this still considered a beta, or is it the final version? I want to use IE8, but I do not wish to participate in any experiments or serve as a beta-tester.

Sometimes they can have several RC's, its not considered beta but they are still fixing bugs for final release.

Get opera instead, it is far superior.

Well, Firefox is the overall best, but you might like Chrome too. Opera takes a little longer to load, and IE is the longest. At least on Vista or XP.

Don't use Chrome. It is spyware 100%. German federal police has massively warned of using it. No other software the federal police has ever warned of so urgently.

Concerning loading times: I click on a link, and 1- 2 seconds later the page is up in IE7. What else could you want? 0.3674 seconds reaction time? Security wise, use IE7 in closed and tightly set security mode and use your brain before clicking any link and downloading every thing you stumble over. Then you are doing well with IE. It is much better than it's reputation. Firefox 3 crammed much more garbage into my temporary folders, for example, and it also proved to be a burden for the system, keeping the HD running for long time every couple of minutes, and taking much more CPU load than IE. Firefox 1 and 2 even accepted more items being downloaded onto my HD that later triggered security alarms when using active scanners, than IE. Some were false, some were real. With IE set to "high internet security", I do not have that problem.

This is not to say Firefox is bad. Plenty of people obviously like it. I just say that if you do not act irresponsibly, IE is much better than it'S reputation, and easier to handle by your system. I think it is too much "religion" in this debate Firefox versus IE: MS always is the devil, Mozilla always is the savior.

Point of all this is: do not use Chrome. Security- and privacy-wise it is the by far worst option you can take.

Gotta love Google!

I wouldn't mind trying IE8 if I knew it would work with my computer. IE7 never did work right with it so I gave up on it and went back to IE6. I only use IE for sites that need it which is very rare.

Slightly off topic, but I have to say I've been becoming increasingly dissatisfied with Firefox. It seems with every update it becomes more like IE, a big bloated power hog. Since I'm running an old system, I tend to notice these changes sooner, as over the last 6 months its been steadily getting worse in performance, and has started to freeze up while using all available processing power, just to browse a basic website. Performance with flash has gotten really bad as well.

That's the first I've heard of Chrome being spyware. Though, it is from Google, the company that targets ads in GMail and searches. Is that the issue you're referring to?

Then again, I suppose it may have holes, being a beta and all. I'd like to know more.

Great, a browser war

Opera is my pick, and has been since version 3.xx. I'm currently using version 10 alpha, so quite a few years of use and so far no reasons to change. I have downloaded Firefox to see what the fuss is about and IE8 came with Windows 7, but I very rarely use them.

IE8 seems to be pretty much on par with the most recent Firefox. The little I've used it suggests it's pretty stable and works as advertised most of the time. If you're interested in it there's really no reason not to try it. The download is small, and you can always remove it if you're not satisfied.

Its been cleaned out and defrag shouldnt matter much at all (my hard drive isnt thrashing around while using firefox). Performance is still degrading while IE works the same as it always did, and I haven't noticed any performance losses anywhere else. My computer though is a really old (athlon xp 1700, 2 gb ram) and that could be why I've been noticing a steady degradation in performance, which people with higher end systems wouldn't notice.

I still use the old Firefox 2, and no way I'm going to change.

I have the IE8 beta on my computer, and when I had the internet at home it worked just fine for me. Had some cool features, too.
