Default The return of the Idiot!

I thought I should just let you all know that conning a u-boat is not like riding a bike. You do forget!
I've been away from this game for nearly a year now as a result of working away from home and being separated from my beloved desktop. I spent the last week shipping my stuff home and finally got a chance to blow the cobwebs off old Betsy. Lo and behold when I logged on here I discovered there was a GWX3! And Gold no less! I spent the day uninstalling SH3 and re-installing, downloading the new GWX, re-installing SHCommander and generally starting completely afresh. Of course there was the obligatory battle with starforce but after the 20th time I entered the keycode it accepted it New game, new career.
Of course before running Commander I had to do a patrol so I figured this would be a handy refresher course. You know toddle off into the North Sea, do a few deep dives and see how deep I could go before the bolts started popping and the crew started to tremble. They needn't have worried. I never made it out of Willi. I stuck on some flank speed coming out of the blocks to see if I could outpace the escort. It looked like he was gonna cut across me though so I hit the keyboard to cut engines. Except I didn't, I hit hard port rudder and the dock wall loomed. I then hit right full rudder and flank astern. I was therefore delighted to hear the chief announce 'schnorchel tiefen' and slow astern. There was very little to do except wait for the crunch down in the control room. By the time I'd surfaced we'd left half the hull smeared along the harbour and limped out with 76% hull integrity. Needless to say I didn't attempt bringing her down to 230 metres.
I think the convoys are safe for a little while longer
