You're just using the wrong icon. The 'report contacts' asks your radioman to repeat any contacts he has RECEIVED not sent. You want the 'SEND CONTACT REPORT' icon. There is also a 'send patrol report' icon which just sends your location, ships sunk, torpedoes remaining... etc.

This is little related to this topic, but anyway. Once when I was submerged, I placed the cursor over the button where you can usually send patrol reports. But now it said "Send weather report" instead of "Send patrol report". I couldnt press it because I was submerged, and when I surfaced, it changed back to "Send patrol report".

Everyone seen this before? Is it just a bug or does it have somekind of meaning?

Never saw that, but I always assumed the radioman was doing his nails while we were submerged and I never wanted to bother him.

I'll try it the next time.

its a bug

sending weather reports was supposed to be a part of SH3 from the beginning, but as the original release date loomed, it got the axe.

think of this as a ghost of something that never was fully developed.

review your sound files for voices... appears there were a lot of options which were not included in the final release "Set shallow dive" "set steep dive" "normal dive" "abandon ship" etc etc

The 'send contact report' has a number of requirements to generate results. As Jimbuna said, you need to be in visual contact of the target. Also, I believe there needs to be 3 or more ships sighted. Finally, if the contact is within range of a German air base, you MIGHT see the Luftwaffe appear and launch an attack (so I am told). Otherwise, you'll just get an acknowledgement from BDU that they received the report. I've had several reports acknowledged, but have yet to see the flyboys make an appearence.

During my one career in the Med the flyboys were beating me to ships! I didn't send any contact reports, but several times just as I was setting up my shot either submerged or on the surface they would show up and blow the ship out of the water!

Those were probably already scripted in but the Med is so small that there should be a greater chance because of the reduced range needed.

As pointed out earlier...sighting an air attack on merchants is few and far between.

^ just about hit the nail on the head

Airstrike cfg controls those variables and an easy one to mess up
I believe there is also a time frame between reports - 2 hours IIRC
Meaning if send one at 1100hr cannot send another till at least 1300hr
At least ,I think 2 hours is the set time

There is also a chance enemy aircraft will respond to your message being sent

Yeah, it was the only career when I saw Luftwaffe attacks with such regularity. 3 times in 5 patrols. Wouldn't mind so much if I received partial credit!

Actually I can't complain about the Flyboys: The only time I actually saw a freindly airstrike was in the Med, and I was left on only one remaining Torpedo when I run into two enemy cargo ships of C2 size.

Called the contact and soon two Italian aircraft showed up and pounded them, sinking one and putting the second on fire and to low speed. My last torpedo finished him and I got the credit for the sinking.

Well done, Reggia Aeronautica!

Cheers,
