LCD Wide Monitor Settings for SH3

Well I just tried SH3 out on my new 24" LCD monitor (SM2433BW), but the overall picture is far too light, sort of hazy, can see at night almost like day, SH3 doesn't have any settings to lower the gamma, thing is setting the overall brightness & contrast to zero just makes the picture more hazy like a light fog but still see at night! Is there a way to get the background black like the old CRT's? Running in a window is better but sort of kills the effect!
Maybe I will have to make game profiles, any ideas?
Edit: I just tried setting the overall ATI Gamma down from 1.00 to 0.75 and looks a lot better.

Your monitor should have basic colour/contrast/brightness controls, firstly calibrate them using a calibration card, like this one - http://www.tldseller.com/HD%20TEST%20PATTERN%20LOGO.png

Following that, IIRC you have an ATI GFX card using Omega drivers, so navigate through to the Display Properties > Settings > Advanced, there you should saee the available options for the Omega display drivers, choose (IIRC) Colour and there you can change your Gamma levels. Click Apply/OK.

I did just as danlisa suggested, and modified my settings to make it perfect.
As I am usually in a fog, I thought it was just me.

I got a widescreen lcd on tuesday a smaller 22 inch model but wow what a difference it makes to gaming compared to a normal 19 inch monitor , i was blown away first time i saw the sea with it in GWX3.

if you have the money i recommend investing in an lcd it's so much more detailed.

Yes Irish, Dan is right, the video cards gamma setting makes a HUGE difference to how the screen looks compared to the monitors adjustments. I have the monitor Brightness & contrast set to 60 and is about the best, but not much control over Gamma, looks great now.
