Default Problems with GWX 3.0 install

Hi everyone,

first post here. Just got into upgrading my vanilla SHIII 1.4b patched game to GWX. I saw the newest 3.0 offering should be upgraded to a "clean" version which is perfect for me since I've never used 2.0 etc.

BUT I have problems. My game freezes at like 80% loading on the title page. And its not just slow, because it was frozen for 4 hours.

I get these failure reports:

"There is a new (not implemented) page :< Page Ingame Options"

and

"Menu ID not found oxlaawos" ( I think thats the last word, I wrote it last night a little fuzzy...)

I downloaded the GWX.exe single download, but I don#t know if that including the "bin" files? Is that my problem? do I have to download and install the 7 seperate bin files too, despite that the link on this forum says "single download"?

Please help a newbie! I'm dying for more realism than computer generated convoys popping up randomly and empty Ports with no targets...

Thanks in advance

Normally this error is due to the game being 1.0, not 1.4, are you sure it's patched?

There have been reports of corrupted downloads with the one big file download. Did you run the MD5 file checker on it?

ok, this is interesting....

I have the 1.4b patch, its named as such, HOWEVER when I actually run it, it says its a 1.0-1.3 patch!!

Have I downloaded a 1.3 patch with just the name of 1.4b?
hmm.....

strange since I got it from Ubisoft website...

Most likely you have the correct patch if you got it from Ubi with a filename that indicates it's 1.4b. The wrong version number in the installer is and old and harmless error by them, and apparently still not fixed

so the advice is to re-download the GWX 3.0 upgrade and to NOT use a single download, since the files might be corrupted. So first the bin files, and then the .exe file, and then install it all at together?

Now I just have to see if I can figure out exactly where all that is.

thanks by the way for the help guys!

i had this problem as well. i downloaded the torrent from jimbuna's filefront, takes a while to get, but it's all intact and runs great. hope this helps. and remember you need a totally clean install of SHIII, meaning that once you have uninstalled it you still need to go to the program files folder and delete the Ubisoft, or the SHII folder completely.

good luck aus München

That is correct. Back when the 1.4b patch was released it was noticed that it only said 1.3 on it. If you downloaded it any time after mid-2005 (a joke, since you did say you just recently got it) it is indeed 1.4b, and it will say so on the loading screen.

As to your actual problem: If you got the all-in-one version from Beyond The Shadows http://bts-mods.com/, then that's all you need. If all you have is the .exe file from any of the GWX member pages, then you do indeed need all of the files in the same folder before it will run. The .exe is just the starting motor, without any of the actual parts.
