Default A movie ruined: "The Deer Hunter" - Director's Cut

They edited Robert de Niro out of it. Also, Meryl Streep no longer makes her lovely appeareances.

Personally I think they pretty much ruined the film with this special edition. Even the deer no longer acts as you remember it from the first, original version.

On the positive side, it is no longer as long as the original, which was pretty much boring due to 3 hours running length, and the deer of the title only had one minor appearance despite the length of the movie.

There is a reason that directors cuts sometimes don't make the big screen.

Actually that scenes and the depicting of the Vietcong is absurd. The vietcong was no lose band of rogues, but a very disciplined army with a tight and strict command structure, well led. It also was communistic by ideology. that they would engage in actions earning money by russian roulette, is very absurd, really. Same says an old German veteran correspondet, who as a young man fought in Indochine for The French, later was war reporter during the american war, repeatedly went out with the troops and into the battle, and once was cought on the wrong side of the border - then living for several weeks with the Vietcong and having been able, almost unhindered, to document their life and way of going. He also insisted that the way the Vietcong is depicted in most American war movies is scandalous and tells more about the hurt ego of a defeated superpower than about the VC.

I like the movie, but for different reasons, the description of psychological desintegration of normal life caused by war and violence per se.

To me, a very powerful movie that I could and did watch once, but can never watch again.

A guy that gets his ass kicked by a deer is a guy that should never be allowed to hunt again, my God! What a jackass...

He wasn't hunting. He and his wife were driving around when they spotted deer in a roadside field. This idiot covered himself with buck lure and walked out there while his wife filmed it with comical results.
