Default Newb question hydro and map

Hello all nice informative site ya got here.

I was ambushing a convoy earlier and as they passed i popped up and put 3 fish in one merchant and 1 in another , was supposed to be 2 n 2 ! The 3 fisher went down immediately but the 1 went slowly dead in the water. As the dds searched for me i hid under the merchant until they gave up then surfaced to finished her off with my deck gun so as to save my final 3 stern fish for any targets i may happen accross on my way back to midway.its been a good trip so far!

My question: If i cannot hear the merchant sitting there floating should it show up on my map screen , do the dd's go silent to try and find you?
1ts 41 and im in a porpoise at 73% .v1.5 stock game

If it is pretty much dead in the water, hydrophones wouldn't pick it up. So there wouldn't be the acoustics line on your map. If you stick your periscope out of the water, you'd have visual contact and that would show on the map.

But don't worry, hydrophones tend to be like women with p.m.s. . They scream alarm for fishing boats, saipans and everything wind powered - even the water treading survivor won't slip them - but the juicy escort just doesn't seem all that important.

some things in the game dont reflect real life so you are correct, unless repair crews are making noise or something you shouldnt be able to fix its location without visual contact. the game shows things it shouldnt sometimes but engines might be running for power and water pumps so dead in the water doesnt have to mean silent.

But yes, sometimes escorts stop engines and wait for you to make the mistake of thinking you're not there. Make 'em pay when they do that!
