Early 1942, the only radar on my boat is is antenna radar. How do I efficiently search for ships, besides 1. Searching on the surface using earch patterns until my crew announces a contact or I observe a contact I can intercept on the map; 2. Submerge and search with hydrophones, which is a huge waste of time, as you can search as efficiently as on the surface; and 3. Use surface radar antenna, but I do not know if that will search for anything but planes (I asked that question in a separate thread I just posted)? Also, are their any good maps that can be modded into the game that show the prime shipping routes? If not, are there any maps that can be downloaded that will help identify the location of prime shipping routes where I can expect to find targets? Finally, and this is unrelated to this thread, I have modded JoC-SH4- Haifish-1.0 great white sharks into the game. I have not seen any! Has anyone who uses the mod seen them? The best way´s to find ships is to head to where they are likely to be. Such as outside of big harbours (ports), in narrow channels that links one ocean from the other etc etc... Have a look at your map and try to figure out the routes from the bigger cities to the frontline of the war...

Also, heading in to a port might present opportunities to sink some shipping that is docked. Just watch out for the escorts that normally patrols outside the ports...
Dunno about the mod though. Easier to find an answer to that question on the mod-forum or check the information that came with the mod if there are any fixes... |

About the middle of 1942 you can purchase surface radar (SJ). It will find surface contacts for you.
In the meantime, when you are in time compression, watch your icon on the map. When it stumbles/pauses immeditately go to real time, submerge and do a sonar sweep. The rest of the time all you can do is rely on your watchstanders when surfaced.+ |

Also, there is a map for RSRD that you can download. It supposedly shows the shipping routes as used in that mod. I don't have the site for it but if you search you'll find it.

:rotfl: Hmuda, I had NO IDEA idea what you were saying (communicating) amd did a double take. Then, I took a wild guess and double clicked on THIS or THIS. Suddenly, I was awake, having been slapped in the face with a dead fish! Hell, we are at war (even though it is Saturday morning). Nice work, with a tinge of humor to top it off!:rotfl:

The second 'This' is the one I am referring too. Lurker (mod developer) recommended that one to me.

Yeah, I love to lay quiet and listen right in the middle of a nice choke point.

RFB 1.52, RSRDC
the stretch of water between Peleilu and the Phillipines is positively teeming with Jap. ships in '42, 43 and into 1944. I call it "Tanker Alley" for obvious reasons. Straits of Formosa, Bungo Suido.
