Default What do you do with them neutrals?

I have gotten wind on this forum that some uboatman are attacking neutral ships diliberately, even before the war is even started. I don't know if I am the only one who find this just a bit disturbing.

For myself, I do my upmost to prevent sinking neutral ships. Even when in a convoy, I will not attack any ship possitively IDed as neutral. (them neutrals are really abusing the previlage of being neutrals). It's not un-common for me to spend hours chasing a sound contact only to discover they are neutral when I got into perfect firing position.

While I have sunk a number of neutral ships. I firmly believe in each case the victim is at fault, (either they are in a convoy protected by RN that I have to attack at long range) or they didn't illuminate at night.

But this is a game. So to each their own...

I'm still not to sure what to do with Neutrals who are not lit and heading to the UK,In the Bdu message's you get sent during the start of the war it tells you they are to be sunk,but the messages are just for immersion right:hmm:?If you do that ingame you lose renown,correct?:hmm:So what to do?

It depends on how much value you place on renown

During the real war, having a neutral flag doesn't necessarily give a ship protection. Here are some (only the one I know off) of the exceptions,

If said neutral ship is in a belligerent convoy;
If they refuse to stop for inspection by a belligerent warship;
If contraband material are found upon inspections.

I SH3, however, neutral is neutral, even when their decks are loaded with tanks headed to England. (I have seen that too)

I always leave them alone on the open sea or in convoys; I try to follow the restrictions given as real captains had to. However, in my port raiding days, I would sometimes make a decision that led me to attacking a neutral, e.g. American troop transports docked in British ports. Can't fool me :p

I usually leave them alone. My renown is going into my Type IX fund, so every little bit I save helps

I altered the Basic cfg

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=0
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=0
CompletedPatrol=0
NEUTRAL=0 <--------------
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-10

Now I dont get anything for sinking neutrals but dont take a renown hit either
Waste of torpedos if you gonna get nothing for sinking them
Only made the changes as neutrals in convoys are fair game and easy to make a mistake in the heat of battle
Lit ones and singles I leave well alone

I play this realistically, i.e. I don't sink them as long as they don't report my position or fire at me

Neutral is neutral. I'm always leting them go.
Exclusions can be made if neutrals are sailing in enemy escorted convoys. And attacked by mistake.
