Task Forces

Hi everone

Today I had a lucky patrol ( it was my 2nd patrol ) in April 1940 .
I started a new career today , and my choice was to start in 1940
And I finished my regular update ( 5days) to " Uberleutnant z.s." ,
And when I was finished with that , it was April 1st .
So it wasn't difficult to pick out Narvik area for my next patrol
Bdu sent me to Grid-AN52 for 24hrs , and I go where ever Bdu send me .
When I finished that one I rushes up to Narvik . And waited
When the night April the 12th arrived , my officer yelled "warships ahead !!!"
It was dark wery dark , and rain and fog , so I raised my periscope , and right in front of me , 513 mtrs away , the " HMS Nelson " :p I sent away 3 torps , and down she goes . Those destroyers begin hunting me , so I dived to 142 mtrs .
I turned the nose west , and out of the fjord I go ( 2knts )
When I was out of the fjord the weather is getting better so I surfaced , and reloaded the tubes . I desided to heading home , I was right out of Trondheim when my watch officer says warships closing . The task force was west of me , I took a chance and ordered "full speed ahead", and it was almost morning the clock was 4,
they didn't noticed me poor souls And it was a task force with 6 destroyers , and 1 Southampton class , and a "Illustrious class Aircraft carrier and I fired 4 torps and dived 140 mtrs and listened . Yeah ! Down she goes also . so I managed to get away , and I surfaced again and reloaded .Now it was bright daylight . And I was heading home when I noticed another taskforce , containing 4 destroyers , and 3 Southampton classes . I only had left one torp in the front , and one in my aft tube .So I ordered to fire one torp at the last Southampton , and crash dived ! Because they was so close . One explosion and she blowed sky high and sunk:p :p And I managed to getaway again And I arrived my homebase safely . Here I made a map for you to see , and maybe manage to sink those yourself Here you are :

I've attacked the Nelson in that spot as well. I seem to recall it being escorted by a ridiculous amount of DDs.

Nice patrol there!

Yes Mookimookie

Yes , sir, you're right , a lot of destroyers ( 6-7 I think ) .
But the fog and rain is my weapon
I don't understand why people complains about the weather ,
it's the best way to sink them

At sea again! GWX 3.0 sucked me back in. Plus, it's cold enough here (CDN) that I can run my computer without having my gfx card overheat (if i leave the window open).

Just started in 2nd flotilla - april 40, with a brand new VIIC. I know what you mean about all the TF action. It was TF city. Radio reports everywhere. I got 7 radio reports on the 28kt task force - allowing me to draw a perfectly straight in through them and compute the speed perfectly. So, first patrol, I bagged me a Renown class for 48k. Consider u-140 christened.

I envy you both and your high tonnage. Just finished my third patrol and only managed to sink 9789 through 7 coastal freighters. Although I sank all but one with my deck gun . And waisted 8 torpedoes by experimenting with Salvo's and the lot.

HMS Nelson

Hi everyone

I was in the Narvik again with my type VIIB sub
And I waited in fjord for HMS Nelson to arrive
In the night April 13th 1940 he was coming straight toward me ,
with a bunch of destroyers .
I send away 4 torps , but only 2 torps hit him
But I waited till that afternoon (April 13th )
He come again , on his return home in the fjord ,
and I had slowed him down , he came after them destroyers ,
and I send 4 torps again , and this time he sunk :p :
