Hello!!
Have two questions about SH4 mods so here they are: 1- Is possible to control surface ships? Especially DD and CL/CA ?? If Yes is possible to command it as in DC? Aiming the guns,DC...? 2- Exist any mission editor so I can create battles for the surface ships and make battles between them? Thank's |

1-No not without a ton of modding and even then you will only get one gun.
2-Mission Editor? |

Stratos;
welcome aboard. As Steamwake says there's only modded ships which allow a limited playability. Look in the SHIV Mods forum. As far as I know all of the playable ships only allow you to view from the bridge and control certain guns. The guns are simply the submarine deckgun "re-positioned" so you do NOT get 16"inch turrets etc to control. There is NO modded playable ship that allows you to drop depth-charges etc. So it's nothing like Destroyer Command in that respect. Go here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=222 Everything you ever wanted to know about the mission editor is right here:http://www.wolfwillow.com/nu/westwin...sguide_v06.pdf I believe you can position opposing AI ships and have them blast away at each other (but again, you do not control the guns). Good luck. |

Actually on most of the ships I have used, you do contol one Turret. It takes the place of the submarine deckgun. So you can select a target for the other guns to shoot at, and then man one turret yourself and fire at a different target. And you also get to control two or three AA guns depending on the ship and how it is modded. And if it is modded you can end up controlling something like a 5 inch gun, possibly even double barrel if it is modded as an AA or dual purpose cannon.

Well, you know, Silent Hunter is a submarine simulation series. Just gaining the ability to drive a surface ship around is a tremendous accomplishment. What the modders have done to make them able to fight is amazing perversion of a game that never intended anything of that. I think that further developments will happen but they will happen without the cooperation of the game engine, just as the present advancements have. You really have to credit skwasjr and S3D for making possible what the developers never dreamed could happen.
But further advancement will be only by dragging the game kicking and screaming to somewhere it doesn't want to go.
