...when an aircraft is spotted, why in the world would I want "Persicope Depth" as a command option?
Is there a mod available that converts this to, "Crash Dive!" |

I have often wondered that myself. Maybe PD would have been sufficient for the stock game, but with mods it is a death wish.

:hmm: I do believe "P" is for pericope depth and "C" is for crash dive. Or were you talking about something other that keyboard commands?

No, I've got the keyboard commands down.
I always override and go with "C" for a crash dive. It's that message box that pops up with various choices: Engage target! Dive to periscope depth. Maintain current orders. Just seems silly that "Dive to periscope depth" would be an option as opposed to "CRASH DIVE!" ...or at least have "Crash Dive!" as a fourth option. As it is now I always select "Maintain current orders." then I immediately issue the "C" (crash dive) command. |

My guess is that it prevents you from crasging into the bottom of the ocean if you are in shallow waters.

On the other hand, if you set "P" as the default you'd bounce off the bottom in certain shallow areas regardless. |

Actually, periscope depth is a lousy option because it calibrates the dive to level off perfectly at periscope depth. It does this by nerfing dive time. In fact, your dive is leveling off even before your boat is entirely submerged: a crappy thing when bombers are drawing a bead on you.
Better to cancel out of the pop-up screen with the inappropriate choices and just hit the "d" key to dive. Level it out yourself by hitting the "p" key when you get to periscope depth. It will cause you to overshoot and come back up slightly but won't leave you lollygagging around on the surface waiting to suck up some high explosives.

Yeah, it just doesn't seem like a very useful option; does it?

I find that D dives just as fast a C. Also on my rig if I use C the crew never stops yelling commands.
I do like how Crash Dive has an auto level at a preset depth...but |

Crash dive, set depth for 120' every time. Otherwise, you sleep with the fishes. It's been my ship's standing orders since RuB.

I usually select "maintain current orders" as the default reaction to that annoying screen so that, at least, it won't pop up anymore. Then the next time I get a "plane spotted" or whatever it's up to me to react and take the appropriate action.
The other annoying thing about the "always take this action" pop-up is that there's no way to "undo" it if you want to cancel/change the default action. |

![]() Ehh... it's just a nit. There are definitely larger fish to fry when it comes to making improvements and/or investing modder time. |

Wow... that's kinda nasty. I didn't realize that if you set "engage target" as the standard response there's no way to undo it w/o starting a new career.
So I roll up on a convoy and the crew just starts firing away? ![]() |
