How did you install your game?

Darn it. I destroyed my game again!

Let us see if we can gain some useful knowledge from my experiences so far...

Here is the bug and solution.
Quote:
If you start a mission in GWX and you have a completely black sky in the daytime then there is a mismatch between the scene.dat file and the skycolors.dat file. The GWX Team has found this is often the result of not correctly install GWX. Roll back SH3 Commander.
Seems to be really difficult for a newbie to install SH3 because the FAQ is are all over the place. As I understand it here is the whole process in one list.

1.Installed fresh SH3 on brand new computer.

2.Patched to 1.4

3.Started Game to install outdated Starforce (otherwise nothing to patch)

4.Patched Starforce

5.Reboot (To update registry)

6.Running game tested.

7.GWX 3 downloaded

8.Downloads verived.

9.GWX 3 install.

10.Running game tested fine.

11.At this point everything worked fine until I tried getting SH3 Commander working. Installed SH3 Commander.

12.Patched SH3 Commander to 3.1.3.185

13.Patched SH3 Commander with SH3PatLogEd120.zip

14.Patched SH3 Commander with GWX_2.1_Cfg_4_SH3Cmdr3.0.7z (apparently current patch for GWX 3:hmm:. Readme appears to give wrong install routine.

15.Game run and we have black sky!!!! So now I am going to have to unpick all of this and start from scratch.

Anybody got any ideas on a total install sequence for all the above patches so there are no errors?

1) Have updated files for use with SH3 Commander and GWX 3.0 Gold been released yet.

If so, I wasn't aware of them. If not, that might be your problem.

2) Do you have any mods other than GWX 3.0 Gold installed?

Perhaps there is a conflict?

3) Did you install JSGME Generic Mod Enabler?

I ask only because there are various Mods that came standard with GWX 2.1 that could be activated/unactivated through its interface:

As you can see there are many that could be activated, perhaps your having an issue with one of these?

I'm sure someone else with more experience with this issue will be along - post haste.

Cheers,

Nope only pure GWX 3.1. Trouble is with one of the options in it.

Problem Solved

One of the cool perks of being a forum member is sooner or later you find someone else that has gone through the same problems. People have reported that the problem is caused the GWX 3.0 16k optional mod. You need to enable it last.

Black sky error does not require a total removal of any patch to fix. It is an error caused by 16k sky mod running whilst SH3 Commander is run for the first time.

To fix. Roll back SH3 commander

Open JSGME and remove 16k Sky mod.

Restart with SH3 commander and everything should work with blue sky and 4k sight range.

Roll back SH3 commander again and then enable 16k Sky mod with JSGME.

Next time you start up the game you have the whole game running sweet.

So its August 1938 and sun is shinning once again. However I think there is a storm coming......

Am guessing when you removed SH3 and SH3commander you didnt rollback commander then remove it
Still contained files as not rolled back which it just placed into game on start up
=black sky

I guess

Nope you guess wrong . There was nothing to remove. Fresh install to a brand new computer there is no campaign running yet. There is no old commander file to roll back.

Error appeared when installing the game for the first time using the above sequence.
