Sorry if this is a question already answered before, but why do ships in harbour crash into the docks?
My current patrol (U-354 OLtn Herschleb) let me to Barentsburg harbour / Spitsbergen. After that long, lonely and icy passage I was rather dissapointed to find three fat Norwegian ships just "baked" into the harbour facilities. This is my second sailing, so it's not the "safe during first sailing" bug, I guess. I'm using GWX 2.1 and LRT mod. I'm now heading for the Jan Mayen Whaling station, but I'm afraid to only see crashed ships there, too (if any). Any ideas? :hmm: Cheers, AndyW

It is a stock bug.
You see the ships move about in the harbor and move about more so in rough weather. The game engine renders the ships first and then the port so you will get ships embedded in the concrete. Due to the fact that the ships have moved in the bad weather. Hope this helps. BBW is the real authority on this. So hopefully he can confirm this.

Sometimes when you save a game when you're too near a port, and then re-load it again to go the rest of the way in, this happens. It's a stock bug. What happens is that for some reason when the save game is reloaded is that the ships are all assigned a speed instead of being told to sit there stationary. Therefore, they all go off and crash into everything. I believe the explanation is something like that.
If you decide to save your game before going into a port, try to make it about a day or so away from the port. Ports can also be left looking like that from air attacks directed against them.

Yep Chris nailed it
Ships are rendered around 35km from you Maybe further In rough weather they are moved and the longer you stay within render range but out of visual range they continue to do so As you get close the ports are rendered Often on top of ships Oddly enough land units are rendered before ports giving some odd pics if you use ext cam Dont know if you have noticed but when heading for home at high TC the comp will lag to a stop at ship render range then move again only to stop again at port render range before carrying on Maybe was one of the reason the devs left ports empty |
