Q-Fan

I have an AMD 64 X2 4800+ with the OEM cooler installed. Its a bit noisy, but with q-fan on, its very quiet. I've making some tests, and the results are that with q-fan on it warms as much as with it off. Is there some kind of maximum heat disipation or fan effectivenes? Im leaving it on, but one of the first days i had this computer, i enabled q-fan but because the BIOS was outdated the fan totally stopped

it was a nasty experience...
