Default MAYDAY!

i tried to download and install the GWX expansion. some friendly souls here were kind enough to give me directions on which files i need for this. i downloaded a total of nine files:

GWX2.exe, GWX2-1 up to GWX2-7 and GWX2.1, a total of 1,34GB. following step by step what the FAQ on the GWX website instructs i un- and re-installed the SHIII and opened the GWX2.exe file which starts the installer.

initially, the installer does all the steps but when it comes to actually open the files, i get an error message along the lines of "the file GWX.exe-1.bin could not be found, please insert the corect disc or select the correct folder"

i have all the files in one folder on the desktop but tried also to download it from an external drive and from a memory stick, same result.

what am i doing wrong, can anybody help?

Hi subdude.

It's kind of hard to tell what u did wrong.. I usually support my friends with instalation of GWX over Teamviewer (remote support software). It's the best solution for me to show how everything has to be done correctly..

I wonder if one or more of the binary files might be corrupted. As I recall, some of us had this problem with GWX 2.0 .
It is recommended to check the MD5 Hashes for file integrity, see in instructions below .

http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/ is where you can get MD5Mate from, to check the hashes

Here are then instructs again - just in case you missed a vital bit

GWX 2.0 Installation instructions:

1. Create a fresh/brand new installation of SH3 patched to version 1.4b
2. Go into your "My Documents" and delete the "SH3" folder you find there. Old Silent Hunter III careers will not be compatible with GWX 2.0
3. Create a new folder on your desktop and label it "GWX 2.0"
4. Download the "GWX2.exe file and all seven .bin files to the folder you just created on your desktop.
5. It is recommended that you burn these files to CD's or a DVD for safe-keeping
6. Double click the GWX2.exe file and follow the directions that appear.

Users can verify GWX 2.0 file integrity with the following MD5 hash if they so choose:

D1FF0D6BFD651E869E323D393B1D5B1E GWX2.EXE
7B14767E3FD8DD9866D902D6CB4B69FE GWX2-1.BIN
2718CAD3259B5A43DF03AA88DEAB402B GWX2-2.BIN
AB9AF05BD89263A018F383EDA589DE90 GWX2-3.BIN
0FFDB16F197E159E61651DB5D805529A GWX2-4.BIN
753D95679C46DF2C54AF7E93B0CCB6EB GWX2-5.BIN
AB5D09575688802B08156CE1C24C6C88 GWX2-6.BIN
5BF3E05A81D0E4E09F331090FD3C4C7B GWX2-7.BIN

Windows Vista users... please refer to the GWX online manual available for download here BEFORE installing GWX 2.0.

I agree with she-wolf; check the files and re-download the damaged file (s).

she-wolf,

thanks for giving it so much thought, but after checking and double checking it still does not work. so for my personal well being and for the greater good of this forum, i just forget GWX and enjoy SHIII as it is.

That's why I offered you to use Teamviever if you stuck. Find the person you trust with GWX to help you out.

Subdude, I still have the .bins and .exe that worked for me. I seem to recall that I had to get the bins down again from a fresh source - but it is all a bit hazy now. If you want me to send them to you to try one more time, then please PM me your e-mail address.

Subdude,
GWX 2.1 should not be in the folder from which you install GWX 2.0 It should be run separately after GWX 2.0 is installed. Also the folder "SH3" in My Documents should be removed or renamed before you do anything.
Sugestion: remove SHIII from your computer, and then make sure that the folder Ubisoft is removed. Clean your registry. Then reinstall SHIII, then the 1.4b patch (if not already included in your install). Then install GWX 2.0 from its own folder, and finally, from a separate folder, install GWX 2.1

An alternate solution would be to wait until SHIII/GWX3.0 Gold is released and then install these programs.

Playing vanilla SHIII sucks, and you will soon loose interest.

I installed a fresh copy of GWX2.1 an hour or so ago without any problem so I can certainly vouch for the files on my FF account.....or alternately, you could grab them from the torrent link on same account.

jimbuna,

never ever did i have the slightest doubt in my heart that your files are anything but pure, uncorrupted digital pieces of art. it is me (old), my old computer and the rather difficult relationship between us that makes my PC life miserable from time to time.
i really appreciate all the kind words and tips you guys are giving me, this forum is visited by truly amazing peolple!

Irish, what would be the problems with having GWX2.1 in the same folder as the other files?

Im asking because I just had to re-install SH3 (and everything else for that matter, my nephew did a very bad thing to my PC... needless to say he will never touch my computer again...)

Anyway back OT. Like I was saying I had all files in the same folder and everything seemed to install fine, Ive done a few patrols with no apparent issue's, yet...
