Ok it isn't Star Trek The Motion Picture by any stretch of the imagination, but I'll go see it anyways.

Looks an awful lot like any of these TV-series they have these days filled with beautiful featureless young faces, plot tailored for juveniles and teenagers. Don't like what I see in that trailer. Looks like "Melrose Place" in space. Und überall diese Milchgesichter... Is the movie about babysitting in space?

I was thinking on opening a new thread about the movie since images and the TV spot were release a few days and bookworm_020 did the job .

After a saw the trailer, that confirms several things, I and . And so after I saw the image of kirk and the enterprise !

For a interesting comment on the movie and ship:

This movie will be the XXI century vision of Star Trek. So one must began to separate the "old trek universe" (with may have or not the Enterprise series) from the "new trek universe". And the movie can be good also...

Yep...it is Beverly Hills 90210 meets The Enterprise!

I'm always a startrek fan but Babylon 5 was far better.

I'm glad Paramount didn't listen to J. Michael Straczynski when he offered his vision because they would have kill his dream.

This is ****ing horrible. Looks like Star Trek is over for good now.

Looks like the new film might be a laugh. I grew up on trek, specifically the origional series repeats and deep space nine. I like to keep an open mind, how bad can it be? (nemesis)

P.S.

Skybird, how do you know it's going to be like bevely hills 90210 or melrose place? You must realy like those shows to recognise them from a 136 second movie trailor

Well, I am sure that I posted here before about this, but definatly not in this thread. I grew up as a Trekkie, and actually came from a Trek message board to here. TNG was my first encounter with Trek and TOS was the thing my father liked that was very corney, but should be respected. DS9 was tops, especially with the long multi-season story arcs, in depth character development, and the darkness (which some would argue that Roddenberry would have never allowed).
VOY had an interesting premis but screwed it up, with the alien of the week bit, especially the lack of continuation of consequences for their actions (which BSG did to their credit). In many ways VOY could be epitimized by Ens Kim. Lots of potential but still a low grade version of what it could have been. Not that it didn't have its shining moments, like many which involved the Doctor story arc.
ENT in many ways was not Trek, because it avoided trek even though it was founded on it. You could tell with the beginning sequence, when Star Trek wasn't even used in the origonal title shot. The entire temporal war distracted it from where it should have been heading, which was the Romulan-Earth War which we never got to see.

All that being said, I will watch this, to support the franchise. But I go in with mixed feelings ... cadet kirk takes command after the captain dies although multiple bridge crew with time in space sit around in shock. No wonder why his ego never seemed to fit into that chair.
TOS had its old salts in The Doctor, Spock, and Scotty to balance the crazyness of Kirk and the young Chekov. Hopefully we will see the balance here.
Oh, and lets avoid this:
