Default How many depth charges did they carry?

It is easy to find out how many torpedoes a class of submarine could carry, but what about the destroyers? How many depth charges were they capable of carrying? I know sometimes it seems like thousands when they are attacking you. I read where it was thirty something--which seems light to me--and I read somewhere else where a single Japanese destroyer unleashed over seventy on a sub in a series of attacks. The latter seems more realistic, they have those on deck already and more down below, quite an area for storage if they used all the space between the stern and the battery for the aft gun. Does anyone know??

Pretty sure it depends on the ship.

Only one time I can think of in this game did a DD run out of charges while still in prosecution. Even then he ran over me time and again as if doing a DC run but no DC's to drop.

When I finally got to deeper water we evaded him.

All other times one of two results, either I evaded and they continued to bomb off in the distance, or they get the kill.

I ran accross a trio of destoyers whom had way more than thirty, hell they popping off a dozen or so at a pass. After about 20 passes between the three they finally got some close and got the kill. I call it the scattergun effect. Put enough charges in the water in the general area finally one will get lucky.

But to your actual question.. I dont know, hopefully some of the grognards will come along and fill in the blanks.

Not many is the short answer, if the DDs in question are in the IJN.

Early in the war 12-18 was not uncommon, and some had none at all. Aside from the almost CL sized Akizukis, they didn't carry more than about 36, ever (fleet DDs).

In RL, many DDs carried no ready DCs because they were a danger under air attack or surface action. When clearing for surface/air action they would sometimes jettison any DCs as well to prevent secondary explosions.

The stock game has 40 DCs PER RACK.

So a ship with 2 racks that might have had 18 DCs in RL, has 80.

Kaibokan carried many more than fleet DDs, some as many as 120 DCs in multiple throwers.

Well I was going to say that's a tater question. Tater, have you talked to Lurker about numbers of depth charges in RSRD boats or Luke about RFB? Chances are they both still have too many. I haven't intentionally provoked an escort to count depth charges since TMO a couple of months ago.

Lurker was aware of the DC work I was doing, in fact he helped quite a bit with it.

I haven't looked at the appropriate RSRD files to see what he ended up using as the number of reloads. It's frankly pretty complicated if you want to have it complicated, as well as enough variability to make it challenging.

There were also some issues with at least one DC rack I made as I recall. Need to test and mess around now that I have s3d v0.9 to work with.
