No Engines

OK I stared playing to get a feel for the game and have run into a problem. I was attacking a small convoy with only one destroyer that came around and dropped one pattern. Some how he got lucky and took out both deisels and both electric motors. I am sailing a type XVIII so I used the Walther to get away but it runs out and I'm stuck. Is there anyway to get repairs or am I stuck?

If you have a small piece of white cloth, you can surrender, a huge piece, you can make a sail.
