Indestructable submarine... a patrol report!

It's my first patrol in a new career of LzS Heinrich Rocks (yes, that's the random name given by SH3 Cmdr!)and it's December 1939 and I'm sailing in a Type IXB through the seas North of Ireland until I receive a contact report of a inbound convoy. The weather was very pleasant, 4-5 m/s windspeed with scattered clouds. So I plotted an intercept course and I waited for the convoy to come in.

As the convoy arrived, I counted 4 warships: 2 Black Swans, a Southampton class and a British S class.

I decided to take out the Black Swans first and then the Southhampton class with torpedoes. They easily sink beneath the waves!

Then there was that S class...

I surfaced and maneuvered to the S class' stern (AKA: its blind spot) and placing 150 mm shells into it. As I was firing the deck gun I happen not to notice the telegraph set to Ahead Standard, way faster than that sub so I incurred about 40% hull damage before I was able to maneuver away. This Type IXB was like, well like a hulking ocean liner!

During that whole time I fired more than 30 shells at that thing and still didn't sink! For about 3 or 4 hours, that S class dipped its bow into the water as if it was diving, but it was not! It was dipping like a stubborn Medium Cargo in a hurricane! So I left it alone and sailed into the Atlantic before deciding to return to base with about 2/3 left in the fuel gauge.

In the same convoy, I sunk 4 merchants and damaged one. Two ore carriers by deck gun and 2 Granville freighters by torpedo. One Granville was that tough so I didn't notice it anymore.

The patrol's still in progress as I'm heading back to base through the English Channel with 5 torpedoes and (as my CE says to me) about 60% hull integrity. The hope is I would sink many ships as I go home.

Wish me luck!

that has to be very annoying to be wasting those shells on a ship that wont sink.
i wish you luck on the return .

The AI Sclass will sink....it will take time though, depending on the amount of damage it receives.

I once came across a S-class that didn't sink, even after a torp.

But more oftern I find they sink fine.

Odd.

As fragile as a player's u-boat is, taking more than a few deck gun hits or one torpedo to sink an AI S-class is ridiculous.

New designation for that sub is BS-class, because that's what it is.

I says so.

Bumped into an S-class twice as part of a convoy. Both times, I wasted two torpedoes with no results. The first time I even had the luxury of using my deck gun in an attempt to finish the enemy sub. I gave up after firing 20 rounds into her conning tower and hull.

I'm not saying this was an intentional design on the part of any modders but it would be interesting to revisit the files and figure out if there's anything amiss...like there was with that Armed Trawler in GWX 1.03 that took an unholy amount of punishment to sink it.

What we need is a crack-squad of those Navy Frogmen penguins to slip in and plant limpet mines on their hulls!
