Default Where do you find battleships/cruisers/carriers?

Every task force or convoy I find has destroyers but I have not seen any battleships, crusiers and carriers. I have seen small gunboats and one minesweeper. I am on Career, mission no. 8. (I don't think I have the skill to sink one but I would like to try and scare them! )

Default Convoys

I would keep my eye out for fast convoys. Those usually seem to be the best chance of finding a good sized warship.

The convoy was zigzagging because you pinged them first. Don't ping and you can easily get inot position.

I wouldent go so far as to say 'easily' usually the TF's containing flat tops are thick with competent escorts and ... well... hauling ass. A little bit of luck is needed. Right place right time. Sometimes you just can not get into position in time.

But yea activing pinging is not a good idea for task forces.

I don't usually seek out BBs and carriers and don't pursue them if I find them. The number of torpedoes used to sink them yields a low average tons per shot. The potential damage from the large number of escort vessels is not worth the risk in my opinion. I leave them to the planes who can sink them with a few hits. It is nice to sink them I guess but sinking merchant shipping was much more damaging to the empire.

I'm playing with the TMO mod and it's mid '43, there is a BB in Osaka bay, I can't remember which one except it had a huge superstructure, to be honest it looked very top heavy I was in there doing a photo recon job when I noticed the BB, I only had a couple of torpedoes left so I left it alone. I intend to go back sometime on the next patrol and see if it's still there an' sink her

It also pays to know history and pay attention to flash traffic if you have RSRD.

I had a recent experience patrolling the solomons in and around the date of the battle of the Eastern Solomons. I got a report from intelligence that a Jap task force was pooling in Truk to ship out a couple days before that battle. I headed north and put myself on a search pattern bettween Truk and the Solomons.

I ended up running into the main task force in poor weather (some odd number of cruisers and destroyers, 2 BBs, and the Aircraft Carriers Shokaku and Zuikaku (sp?!?!) just like was supposed to be happening in real life).

I ended up getting frustrated by escorts and weather, launched a full spread on one of the cruisers between me and one of the carriers, missed, and by chance hit the keel of a CV with deep runner at long range.

The escorts forced me off and the TF was too fast to catch back up too.

The CV sank, 28,000 Tons.

RSRD seems to put the right CVs and Battleships in the right place at historical times...
