Default Blue on Blue '39

(Firstly, i hope this is the right location to post this, this is my first post, so apologies in advance if it is not )

A question for you all fellow Herrs und Kaleuns, this issue has me equally mistified and baffled alike! :hmm:
I left Kiel in July '39 on my first GWX 2.1 patrol off to Grid Ref AN 21 up near Lerwick Shetland to patrol for 24 hours in, U-4 Type IIA "bathtub" craft.
Having not played SH3 in a while and wanting to explore and experience some of the GWX 2.1 changes, I took the Kiel Canal to check out the eye candy along the way, made my way north via Heligoland to check out the great job done by “TigerKatziTatzi” on the new terrain and found myself in the upper northern sector of Grid AN 21.

I worked my way south through some rather tight channels towards Lewrick, only to manage to run aground and kill a few of my crew with the impact.
Yes, Bernard was navigating!! (Not to mention the fact that I nearly fell off my chair at home with the noise in my headphones of sudden impact!! Scared the fekn bejesus out of me and I spilt my brew all over the place!) “Sailing in shallow waters is not a wise move”, I giggled nervously to my self, oh my, I am rusty at this! Try to depth check from time to time noob boy!!! (Always easier to blame Bernard mind you!):p

Anyway, with 5 crew down and buried at sea (God bless their cotton socks) I made quick time home for Kiel, as I can only imagine my impact with the sea bed had significantly reduced my Hull Integrity. (SH3 Commander was not running).
So there I am happy as Larry to have made it back alive, albeit somewhat lighter on the crew front, within 7kms of Kiel and decide that I’ll manually go all the way and dock so as to get a good look at the Graf Spee which was docked there upon my departure.
5kms out and I get “Ship spotted” message, I zoom in on my navi map and click on the “very fast” (18/19 knots) approaching Coastal minesweeper/Räumboot / R-boot, I think to my self, “how nice, a welcoming escort party to guide me in to harbor after my first patrol!”, wow these GWX guys think of it all, amazing!!!
The next thing the said Räumboot, slows down, takes up a position to my starboard side and starts blasting at me with his full compliment of 20mm and 37mm antiaircraft guns, what a charmer!

Before I could figure out what’s going on, I have now got men down on deck, am taking damage all over and before I know what the hell is going on, ICH BIN KAUPPT UND TOT!!!!
What’s the story here lads?? :hmm:
I have heard of Blue on Blues but this took the biscuit!!
Any and all ideas or theories welcome!!!!!

Needless to say, GWX 2.1 has me in awe of the change from stock, what a fantastic job you lads have done makes the game so much more intriguing, even if I get wasted by my own side on my first patrol!! Chapeau!

PS: Thanks to Wreford-Brown for his guidance with GWX 2.1, cheers lad!

About that R-boot attacking you...

Are you sure you didn't attack and sink any friendlies? :hmm:

If you did, BdU wants your head!

AND BTW,

Welcome aboard!

Hey “rifleman13”, no mate, no friendly craft sunk or attacked, the only craft I sank was something like a River Class frigate (can't remember the exact class) but it displaced 1188 tons, it was docked in Lerwick. Popped two magnetic charged eels at it at a depth of 4.5m, one prematurely exploded and the other got it at the dock. That’s all I could do, as with 5 crew having drinks down in Davy Jones’ Locker and manning all stations I didn’t even have enough crew to reload the two tubes and kept the last eel in-situ incase of a nasty surprise on the way home.
Weird hey?! :hmm:
Thanks for the warm welcome btw mate; you guys have a great community going here indeed.

Cheers
Paddy

In July 39 everyone is neutral so you become the enemy of everybody inc Germany if you sink any ship

So even the brethren of the Fatherland would take out an adventurous Kaleun for a somewhat little misguided, yet pre-emptive, strike on the soon enemy to be????!!!
Seems a rather drastic measure tbh!!
Surely a good bollocking from BdU would suffice?!
Ah well, back to sea again later and better luck second time round……….at least I got an answer!
Thanks “Reise” for clearing that one up……….i’m sure there will be more from this eager yet misguided Kaleun!! :rotfl:

This is a stock game behaviour, hardcoded. This isn't GWX fault. If you hit friends Sh3 makes you enemy of them too. But as the war goes, this isn't an issue anymore, you will have a lot of legal targets to play with.
