deleting search patterns?

I use the icon on the screen to set up search patterns. Then I undoubedly get a contact and have to delete each of the flags in the search pattern to have a clean screen. Is there one or two buttons I can press to delete the entire patter (i.e. all of the flags), or do I have to delete each of the flags individually, which is a pain in the ass?

Default eraser is not efficient

If you use the eraser, you have to delete each search flag. How can I delete all flags in one or two keystrokes? I it possible?

Yep you're right, I just checked it and ctrl+erase erases all map markings, not waypoints. One way to get rid of all waypoints is to select the first waypoint and plot another waypoint after it. That'll substitute anything that was previously after that waypoint with the new one.

Generally I'll click on the last one and delete 'em all by repeatedly hitting (mashing, pressing, etc) the delete key on my keyboard.

Shift+Delete kills all waypoints, Ctrl+Delete kills one at a time. Provided you are in waypoint mode and navigating to them. Shift+Delete will also go to "all Stop" in the "follow plotted course mode"

Default First Waypoint

I just go to the first waypoint and click a new waypoint.

I just don't get too complex with my search pattern just in case I have a contact. I wasn't aware of these shortcuts, though.

Funny thing about the eraser, at first I thought mine was messed up, was having trouble using it. It would work sometimes but I had to pound the heck out of it and cover the flag all over to get it to work. Was driving me nuts. Then at last I noticed the small symbol at the corner that actually did the deed!

This... select the way point closest to you with the 'plotting' tool (the one you normally use to set course). Move the closest way point a little. A new leader will now be attached to your plotting tool. Click it somewhere on the map, you now only have two way points, all others are deleted.

...may have been mentioned already. But if you click any waypoint, you can use it as a new starting point; just click a new spot for the next new waypoint. This will delete anything after it and leave everything before it intact.

Search patterns are one of the most useless features in the nav toolset.

It would've really been cool if they would let you modify those on-the-fly. Unfortunately, they are all preloaded at game startup. Imagine how cool it would've been if they just read the textfile during gameplay, you could change em at will.
