Default Question on GWX

Kaleuns,

I'm relatively new to GWX but I read that the wonderful team put a lot of efforts to recreate realistic convoys and events. It's my 7th patrol in March 1940. While crossing the North sea, I received a radio message saying all activities in Atlantic are suspended indefinitely. I suspect the invasion of Denmark and Norway is planned.

Should I forget about my patrol assignment in grid AM54 and wait for new orders or are those radio messages just for the atmosphere? How about SH Cmdr, does it schedule mission dates with relationship to major events like Norway invasion, or is it all random?

All of the messages in GWX are historically correct but unless they affect you directly (e.g. new bases, resupply ships dates etc) they are there just for atmospheric reasons. Having said that most of the historical operations are scripted so you can actually be part of them should you wish. I would suggest you read the relevant part of the manual regarding the operation you are interested in.

I hope this helps. If you need more information give us a shout

Well, it's up to you, if you had been way out in the Atlantic I'd have continued the patrol
But since you're in the North Sea anyway you might want to head over to Narvik or Trondheim and see what's what, you could also check the GWX manual for some tips about the Norway invasion, see operation Weserubung

Good Hunting

If you try the GWX Mission Orders mod it will send you messages about all the major events scripted into GWX. That way you'll be ordered to take part in these events.

All the info comes from the GWX manual (which is a great history book for WW2 naval affairs) and the mod will work as a reminder and point you in the right direction when you get close to the date of the historic event.
