Default Jury Duty Scam

Hmm. I might even have possibly got sucked into this one, though I never give out my SS to anyone but the state, and only after I called them, not them calling me. That is my general rule. A Bank that I called might get it too, though not if they called me.

JURY DUTY SCAM :

This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below).

Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book.
It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call.
Most of us take those summons for jury duty seriously .
a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced.

The caller claims to be a jury coordinator.
If you protest that you
never received a summons for jury duty,
the scammer asks you for your
Social Security number and date of birth
so he or she can verify the
information and cancel the arrest warrant.
Give out any of this information and bingo,
your identity was just stolen.

The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states,
including Oklahoma, Illinois, and Colorado.
This (swindle) is particularly insidious
because they use intimidation over the phone
to try to bully people into giving information
by pretending they are with the court system.
The FBIand the Federal Court System
have issued nationwide alerts on their
web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.

Just ask them for their state id number, and state employee number. You will verify it with the state, and call them back when you get confirmation. Then call the county or city court to verify that you were sent a jury duty notice.

Btw, they don't need your SS number or date of birth to pull anything up. I have been summoned for jury duty for the month of October at the Federal Court in Denver. I just happenned to see an old landlord I rented from 10 or so years ago, and he and his wife kept the summons for me as I see them from time to time at the store while getting groceries. The summons was sent to their house, so I called the courthouse, spoke with the jury commissioner, who only needed my last or sir-name to look me up on the computer. We did correct my address for future reference, but no personal info was given over the phone, nor was it requested.

So if they try to badger you with personal info requirements, it's bollocks, pure balderdash. And if they really persist, ask them for their address and office number, as you will be down in person to take care of it, and see if they persist beyond that. Having caller ID on your phone sometimes helps as long as they don't have call blocking. Or set up your phone so it won't take blocked calls. That is a real big deterent there. Keeps those silly sales calls down too.

If the land line is intrastate then there is no real reason for the "G" to get involved, state matter, state investigation. Well, municipal really.

YES they are. Too many are too stupid to think abit. Just abit.

That why scams flurish. Thats why governments get away with what they do. Bankers, companies etc... long list because most people are stupid.

Otherwise we would live in a different world.
