These are probably trivial, but I am curious anyway, so indulge me...
Will these actions effect how likely you are detected by destroyer's hydrophone/sonar? (SH3/GWX or IRL) - Have periscopes up (but not breaking the water surface) - Have torpedo tubes open. - Have un-repaired external damage. - Have a deck-gun installed (effects the VII/41) - Issueing commands. - Making torpedo settings. (is there a mechanical process involved IRL?) - Assigning crew - Requesting a sonar reading from the Sonarman - Doing a depth check (doesn't it send out an active sound?) Will these reduce the max diving and speed of a boat? - Have periscopes up. - Have torpedo tubes open. - Have un-repaired external damage. What's the down side of keeping torpedo tubes open in this game? Is being near to the surface in rough seas harder for a destroyer to detect than being in medium depth, said, 50m? |

Short in-game answers:
List A- no effect List B- no effect Downside- none In real life, anything that made noise made you more detectable, and running with periscopes, external damage, or open tubes at higher speeds could generate noise. The effect on diving speed would be negligible for the periscope (although it could break at deeper depths), open tubes, and minor-medium damage. |

In RL the periscope, just like the scnorkel, would resonate/vibrate at speeds above 5 knots.
Similarly, the periscope was useless at deep depths because of the light issues and it's pressure seals were not up to coping with deep water pressure. In game, your only issue would be the light or lack of at deep water depths. |

The last post on depth checks had confirmed reports of DD's hearing the ping. I can vouch for this as well, though it doesn't always happen and seems to only effect DD's with good crews. I have wondered about the effects of shallow depths on DD sensors myself. Can we get a confirmation that this is not better than being deep and at what distance this is the case? |

Unaware DD's could hear your pings.....certainly seen no evidence to support such a claim :hmm:
