Default Gun duel with Rodney, Nelson ended in draw

(GWX2.1 100%, IXB)

April 3rd, 1941
West of Gibraltar

To BdU

1800hr, picked up sound contact of 5 warships passing in front, bearing 65. Was unable to close the distance to under 3000 before discovered by escorts, after sinking both escorts using 4 torpedoes, the 2 battleships and one cruiser were moving away fast. Offering very bad shotting angles. Two additional torpedoes at medium range fail to find target.

As the dusk deepened, surface at 13 knot, sight trailling battleship at 4600 meters. Fire 10 shots, making 6-8 hits. Return fire from both battleships begin after our tenth shot. After firing another 7-8 shots, were hit by one shell, cause flooding to 2 compartments. Dived to avoid further damage.

Both battleship are identified at Nelson Class, one of them seem to have a gun turret blown off and suffering numerous hits at water line.

Contact lost after repairs were completed underwater.

No casualties, no major component damaged, will continue patrol.

One 105 mm gun vs how many > 300 mm guns and much more of less caliber?
And you didn´t get destroyed!

That's what I have always wanted to do, beat a battleship with small 88/105 mm gun.

No need to sink....just pierce the pressure hull and it is no longer a submarine....more a sitting duck.

Trouble is that a Nelson class can do 23kts.....

They wouldn't bother firing the main armament: has 3 twin mounted 6" guns each side, so 6x6" vs your 1x3.5".

Also had a 24.5" torpedo tube submerged on each side, so you might face a torpedo coming back at you....

ANY hit from a shell of that calibre (6") would almost certainly leave you unable to submerge, assuming it didn't sink you outright.

As for a 16", one landing within 100m would pobably cause you som MAJOR issues!!!

according to the USS Texas tour guide.... 14 inch gun reload time is about 45 seconds with a good gun crew.

At D-Day the Texas averaged a volley about every 60 seconds over the course of the bombardment.

so relatively speaking... those big guns load faster than you would think
