Default How to run SH3 in windowed mode, any resolution

Evening gents

As many of you know SH3 is locked to 1024x768 when running in windowed mode. For many Ati Radeon plus a 5:4-resolution TFT-panel users running it in full screen is not an option without circles not being circles etc, so you either suffer from that or run it in a small window.

Here's how to overrun the lock:
  1. Get the resolution fix if you don't already have it, and set SH3 as if you'd run it in full-screen mode using your custom resolution. If you want a faultless picture then it HAS TO BE a 4:3 resolution, for example 1280x960.
  2. Get D3D Windower and unzip it to someplace on your hard-drive. No installation is needed.
  3. Set up an SH3-profile for D3D Windower following these instructions. Just substitute "Klingon Academy"( ) with SH3 and you'll be fine. There's a few exceptions though: for window width and height we'll use our custom 4:3 resolution decided above, and disabling DX7 options doesn't seem to be necessary(= more testing needed).
  4. Enjoy the game!

I still haven't figured out how to get this to work without starting SH3 via D3D Windower, so if you have any ideas I'm all ears. Using D3D Windower the way I described prevents you from using SH3 Commander.

This method should work with just about any D3D game. I'm also running Navy Field the same way.

Yeah Navy Field also works, and that's actually how I found this program. I got tired of NF looking pretty bad when running full-screen on a 1280x1024 display, and after a short Googling session found this. After that SH3 came into my mind as another candidate.

You can see my settings below. Those are probably not the optimal ones, but at least NF runs with them. I always run the game straight from D3D Windower. No changes were made to the "Window Mode" tab.
